LB7: Vacuum System

Just completed installing new injectors in my 2003 Duramax. What function does the vacuum pump serve other than the EGR valve and can it be removed with all the associated vacuum hoses. What do the other LB7's outside of California have?
283,000 miles on my truck and it runs great.

On a factory lb7 the vacuum pump is wat pulls the fuel from the tank to the engine then the cp3 picks it up from there

The only function of the vacuum pump is to provide vacuum to the EGR. It is a required emission part on all LB7 trucks, first sold in CA. It has to be there to pass the emission test.
