I did all my VA claims and appointments for the USMC last year before I got out. Got out January 3rd and not sure if I'm behind on getting in their asses about stuff or if I should wait it out. I had knee surgery in October last year, got out Honorably 4 years as a Corporal.

I would keep an eye on EBenefits although it is known to be off. Also if you have any consumables like hearing aid batteries or prosthetic socks you can order them on there as well.

Thanks Tim. I may have some questions about my stuff...any free pointers? :D

Also for those of us that are OIF/OEF veterans keep the National Burn Pit Registry in mind if you don't what that is just ask. Here is some relevant info:

Burn Pit Article
March 21, 2014: Sens. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Tom Udall, D-N.M., slammed the Veterans Affairs Department for failing to set up a registry of troops exposed to toxic pollutants from trash burn pits in Afghanistan and Iraq, as required by legislation they sponsored. The law, signed by President Obama on Jan. 13, 2013, gave VA one year to develop, create and maintain an open burn pit registry of service members and veterans who may have been exposed to toxic chemicals and fumes from open air burn pits. Some of the sites measured acres in size and burned all kinds of trash, including chemical-laden batteries, electronics and plastics. Troops living or working nearby have said the fumes sickened them. VA, in the burn pit section of its public health website, maintains that exposure to smoke or fumes from the trash sites does not correlate with long term health problems, based on research conducted by the Institute of Medicine in October 2011. Corker, ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Udall, a member of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations subcommittee, asked VA Secetary Eric Shinseki why the registry has not yet been established, three months after the deadline, in a letter sent Wednesday. “This delay is deeply concerning, particularly when similar registries exist within the United States government,” Corker and Udall told Shinseki. VA, for example, has operated for decades an Agent Orange Registry for veterans exposed to that toxic defoliant in Vietnam. The two Senators asked Shinseki to “provide Congress with information on the current status of the Open Air Burn Pit Registry, an accounting of problems that have arisen during the development of the registry, detailed information on remaining benchmarks to be completed before the Open Air Burn Pit Registry will become fully operational, and any information on how Congress can help to expedite the implementation of this critical program.” Nextgov asked VA similar questions. “The registry launch has been postponed until spring 2014 to allow adequate time to develop and test the software and hardware as well as to ensure data security and accessibility,” spokeswoman Victoria Dillon said in an email reply. She did not give a firm date for startup.

PM me any specific questions you have. Main thing is to make friends with your clinical coordinator / case worker and not just the MD. Also, you can go to another VA to get another better MD to write a better claim and submit it. If any one reading needs a PTSD eval or anything mental health related including family issues etc. Please email me.

Thanks! I made friends with my case coordinator and the MDs I saw. Only one was standoff-ish and it doesn't matter it's about hearing loss and that's been validated numerous times by dozens of professionals haha. I will let you know if I have any questions after I get my percentages since all my C&P exams are complete :woott:

OIF Marine Infantry vet 2 deployments to Iraq and a few other places. I never really experienced any of the delays i hear most speak about. Started my VA appointments while i was getting out, had everything documented and once I got out i had my evaluation. Literally a few weeks later i had a thick envelope sent to me explaining my benefits. Any time I need to go to the docs, i call and make an appointment or just walk in. One thing I've realized with them is prior planning is key. Last minute is no good, unless you want to wait

Good point! I think starting mine early may have been the key to things running smoothly. My VA rep actually told me that within 30 days of contacting me they had to have all my appointments scheduled or complete. Well he contacted me 3 weeks ago and all my appointments were finished within a week. Pretty timely if you ask me..

Wow!!! After I posted this originally I checked my Ebenefits and it's moved to Prep for Notification already. That's either good or bad haha

I never followed much of the tracking process but I filed mine in April 2012, got scheduled for my appointments Jan/Feb 2013 and April 2013 I received all of my back pay and began receiving regular compensation payments. I never hounded them or anything. I actually filed and forgot about it until I got the letters for my appointments. The time frame kind of sucks but I have heard that they have been getting better.

Remember too that your c&p appointments are eligible for beni travel pay just as if you were more than 30%sc and going to a scheduled SC appt, even in specialty care as long as it is SC related. It changed last year, used to not matter really if it was SC or not, but the new tracking system made it easier to track it in upper admin when they are bored...

Yup that's what I'm looking for too. But I have a few more issues and some of them should have a rating but we will see...good to see you back. Where did you guys deploy?

Afghanistan-Camp Leatherneck. Travelled the southern and western part of the country, convoy security.

Started as APS-12 in July 2012 on the USS Fort McHenry LSD43. (Med float) (France, Spain, Italy, Romania, Albania, Ireland etc), then ended up being first responders to Libya because of Benghazi attacks. Sat off the coast playing the waiting game for 3 months. Apparently bringing AAV's onto shore is an act of war. What a tease. Got home December 2012.

I opened my first claim after my ETS in Dec 2009, which was closed in Sept 2009. I reopened my claim May 2013, and the VA came to a decision Jan 2014. Both claims seemed to move pretty quickly compared to some of the horror stories out there.

Good luck with your claim and thank you for your service!

I'm not a vet but I work for a municipal agency w/ our own gestapo dr's. The only advice I can give is emphasize that the pain affects quality of life, can't sleep, sit down and the pain is 10/10. Loss of range of motion and loss of strength, you ice it everyday and haven't had any improvement. Each follow up is NO IMPROVEMENT.

As far as the exposure stuff goes sign up for everything. If you think they give 2 fukcs about you I'll let you talk to my friends that are still getting fukced from 9/11.

If you are looking to get onto a PD or FD, hold off on putting the claim in until you are on da job and off probation etc. They don't want to hire damaged goods but once you're on they can't do shiit.

Good luck and I hope you guys collect many, many checks. Fuk em where they breathe:thumb:

Great info thank you for some feed back because the va system is very messed up as everyone knows. They would rather take care of the crack heads before us the ones that served and still do!
