Used Head Studs??

I found a set for $400 used. I was told they can be reused, is this true??

my understanding is that they are NOT torqued to yield and therefore can be reused. Hopefully someone will verify for you though.

I had H-11's in my '05 6.0L and we had to "reuse" them 3 times (since the 6L is a POS) and we never had problems.

We uhh....dropped one of those little plastic clips commonly referred t o as "pushpins" down the intake...let's just say she shook a bit when we fired it back up, had to tear it all back down to find the culprit.

Yes they can be reused, that is one of the major reasons for using studs.

PS - Be wary of used parts sold by people who continue to race. There is a reason they are selling them. Find out what it is.

I would buy new ones, if you reuse them, you know where and what they have done.

I dropped a nut down mine, was a hell of a time getting it fished out , but thanks to Mike nothing got hurt :hug:

Sort of off topic. I heard you have to frequently retorque head studs. Is this true? Are head studs a PITA on a daily driven vehicle? I have considered getting them, but if I have to pull the valve covers every 5k miles to retorque studs I may just keep the boost low so I don't have to worry about it.

I never did on my 6.0L. I know you have to do it if you firering, warm up the motor, then retorque.

Remember tomac had his new built lbz blow up early this spring, its probably an extra set out of it, since he went back to his lb7 block, im just guessing. Hes a pretty decent guy, just ask im sure hell tell you.

for and extra 175 u can get new ones and u know they have not been abused
