First post on here. I have a 2005 gmc 2500 duramax. I have done head gaskets with ARP studs and an Sinister Diesel EGR delete at the same time. Also straight piped. I seem to have had nothing but trouble with this duramax, this will be the last Dmax that I ever own. Was driving in sand through trails when I drove through a small creek stopped on the other side to talk to a buddy that was camping at the same lake when all of a sudden I lost oil pressure, turned the truck off instantly. I popped the hood and checked for leaks/oil level. My brother noticed that my upper rad hose was sucked flat. Have a small coolant leak of the piece were the delete hose goes to for the EGR( motor side). I got up to 101 Celsius in the trails an couple hrs before when my brother was leading with his XJ

and forgot there was a full size truck following him. Was in deep soft sand in extreme narrow trails that I had to back out 400 yards. Does anyone know what could have went wrong?

With the hose staying collapsed, you prob just need a new cap for the coolant reservoir. It's petty common. As far as oil pressure, it could be just a bad gauge or bad sending unit. Was it knocking or anything?? I'm sure you'd know if it actually had no oil pressure.

I think I got water on the oil pressure sending unit. It did it again the next day though. Stepped on it in the sand infront of some friends and boosted about 16 psi and it did it again saying low oil pressure. Turned it off started it an hr later and good drive an hr home with no problems. Sounds good idling when it say's low oil pressure. What oil pressure should I have? Any ideas. Thought it was the rad cap.

When the engine is at operating temperature they can get pretty low at idle. Like 18-22 IIRC but if you are getting a low oil pressure warning light then something is amiss somewhere. You can hook a scan tool on it and read oil pressure to compare to the gauge.

Hooking a scan tool up should give you the same pressure. The gauge is controlled by the computer? My edge insite monitor was showing nothing. Go from 21 at an idle then stepped on it and let off and goes to zero. I could pass people on the highway highway and boost high but it didn't do anything weird. I don't have access to a scan tool. Could the connector have some water in it and cause it to short?

Comparing what the scan tool says to what the gauge says will tell you if the gauge is accurate.
The gauge gets its signal from the sending unit, not the computer. If a scantool and the gauge say the same thing, I'd start with a sending unit. Zero is definitely not normal oil pressure. But like I said I doubt the engine actually has no oil pressure or it would prob have locked up already.

My edge insite should give me the same as the scan tool so I will watch it if it happens again.

The gauge isn't the problem if you're getting the low oil pressure warning. You either have a oil pressure problem a sending unit problem or a wiring problem.

I was thinking of putting a mechanical gauge in. Do you know were I can thread into? It hasn't happened yet today, I think it is an intermittent electrical problem.

It happened after I drove through a creek the first time. A couple minutes after I drove through it came up low oil pressure. Next time I stepped into it in sand then let off and it came up again.

I'd go test the wires for the sending unit and inspect them as well. If it checks out, you probably have a bad sender. It very much sounds like you don't have an oil pressure problem.

I am sure I still have pressure or it would be sitting in the bush dead. Will try and trace the wires tomorrow. How do I test?
