Okay guys so I took my truck in for an alignment today and my passenger ball joint he said had over an inch of play SO. time for something to happen. Right now there is absolutely no way I can afford a set of $500 cognito control arms. The truck has the t bars cranked just a little. Doesn't sit anywhere near level. I'm thinking 1 or no more than 2 inches above flat cv angles. Should I go with stock stuff and just do a cheap replacement or I've saw the new zone control arms. Look like a good piece. Can get them for around 370. Or should I go kryptonite? They have bolt in ball joints and are $437. What do y'all think?

Do these aftermarket ones make the ride better or anything? Don't they correct the angles for a slightly leveled truck?
All the aftermarket ones (cognito, kryptonite) give you more drop out and correct the angles to get your alignment in spec. That's about it. If you are a stock height or a little above, stick with stock like uca's in my opinion. If you are really cranking up the front or have money to burn go with aftermarket. But even then they are only a bandaid to the problem.

I run the kryptonite arms with keys for now. I wanted the uniball arms but my thing was if it broke i can buy a ball joint at any local parts store in the us and mexico. I have beat on my truck in the Southern California desert and in some washes and trails in AZ. I do about 75 to 100 mile loops with lots of liquid talent enhancers. I havent had a problem with them and they are made in the USA. Just my $.02

My truck isn't leveled anymore I turned them way way down. Sits about an inch or 2 higher in the back. So just go with the problem solvers? I like the price point. Another off topic question. How can I get my cv angles flat at the height I'm at now. Seems like a 4 inch would lift it too much even turned all the way down. Thinking a diff drop bracket of some sort?

i wouldnt trust those. they more than likely use the junk Moog ball joint that will die in 10-20k.

any of the arms you posted Zack will do what you need them to. you dont need the extra down travel a cognito arm will give and you certainly dont need the stupidly overly built arms some of these places sell. id just throw a set of napa NCP part number UCA on and call it done. Actually, me personally, id jsut replace the ball joint and throw a tack on the joint so it dont pull out of the arm lol

Thank you James. I'll call around this evening and see what I can find. Sucks because I'm supposed to take it to the beach tomorrow but thought it needed aligned because the passenger tire is turned a bit more than the driver. Guess that wasn't the issue :(

Edit: WOAH just called Napa and $130 each. I can almost get a set of upgraded ones for that. Or even a lifetime set of moog. Those are $209. Anyone used the dmaxstore xd series? $159 for both and a 3 year warranty

I can get the problem solvers for $68. Why are they so much cheaper than the Napa brand? Is that a quality difference?

because they are on hand :D. i also know they use a teflon coating inside to encompass the ball and keep wear to a min when grease is not present or has thinned out. Mood problem solvers are hit and miss. they use to be the good stuff, now some are junk.

If you want to hit the beach tomorrow, go pick one of these up and throw it in

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NCZ2601526?searchCategory=7.2&searchIndex=App

looks like they now use a circlip to keep the joint from popping out of the arm like they use to. in that case, i wouldnt even buy a new arm if the bushings are still good in your old arm.

is your other side showing movement as well or is it tight? jsut cause one is bad does not mean both are. im still on a stock original LCA ball joint with 213k, other side died at 190k.

I can't answer that but I run them at they are ok. Haven't had any problems with them. I have been running them for about 2 years. I am at stock height in the front and 2 inch drop shackles in the back.

If you want to go cheaper you can get some heavy duty ball joints. I have been looking at mas b6696rd at rock auto. Seem like a good ball joint.

Not sure if the other side needs them honestly. At 263k I have no clue what's been replaced and what hasn't. I'll have to see what's up when I get home. Ugh always something.

There's no way I can fix it tonight anyway. I don't get home till after 6. Guess we will be in dads songle cab Cummins. Yay...

woman. i lost a wheel bearing in my truck coming from denver. took longer waiting on a tow truck to get me to a napa than to change the wheel bearing. small set of a hand tools, a 36mm sockets and wheeling bearing and it was changed in 45 min. if the town across the highway of where i lost the bearing had an autozone/napa/oreillys in it, wouldnt have even needed the tow lol. UCA ball joint and ball joint press, be done in 30 min (i wouldnt even pull the arm off the truck). pull a tape measure out, throw it on a consistant line of tread around the tire, pull to the other tire and measure at a consistant point, do the same from the back of the tire under the truck, find difference, move tie rod adjustments till you have about 1/8" toe in and off you go. 1 hour tops for all that :D. it will get you by just fine till you get back. Did they even check to see if the steering parts had any wear?

i am a pretty determined person to do things myself and not borrow stuff though. i certainly wont let a shop gouge me for fixing the truck in a hurry either lol
