Info: Up Grade questions......

Hey everyone, new to the Forum. Fairly new Diesel owner.
I have a 05, 5speed LLY. Installed a Intake, 4'' straight pipe, EGR delete.
Im about to put in a AirDog fp150, or maybe the airdog2 165 and a guage pack for the EGT, boost, and fuel.
I dont have a chip in the truck or anything like that, and really no intention of messing around with bigger injectors. I have thought about a new garret turbo though. I dont race or anything like that, i just want a little more power and performance out of her.
My question is: will these upgrades damage the motor if i keep adding stuff. Or anything else that would compliment what i have done and plan to do?

Intakes, exhausts, and lift pumps won't damage the motor. Even larger injectors won't damage the motor (with the right tuning).

Tuning can damage the motor (or protect it). It is all in how good the tune is.

Turbos actually can damage the motor if you get too much boost-- you can blow a headgasket on a stock motor. Head studs will prevent that. Also, tuning can keep boost reasonable as well.

Basically, it boils down to this:

1. Get a good EFILive tune that complements the mods you have (if any).
2. 400 HP will live forever (unless you are very unlucky) - but might cook your transmission.
3. 500 HP is about the max you can do safely on a stock motor & injectors & turbo. This will kill a stock trans really quick.
4. 600-650 HP is about the max you can do safely on stock internals with upgraded turbo and injectors.

There are always some lucky guys who get more power, and some unlucky ones that bend rods or break a crank with less.

I have had my truck at all those power levels (and I'm now moving up to a built motor). If you are looking for reliability, I recommend leaving the engine/turbo/injectors stock, and going with a good EFILive tune of about 400-450 HP. I ran 425HP on my LB7 for years, and it was dead reliable and still plenty fun. But you're going to have to build the transmission sooner or later, so start setting aside the $$.

If you later feel adventurous, the ~600HP level with a good turbo and +60% injectors is a heck of a lot of fun, but that is where things start to go wrong randomly.
