I just got my truck back together and I have a noise on the drivers side that sounds like a really loud power steering pump. I changed it out with another today but it is still there. Have any heard a Dual CP3 pump or water pump sound anything like that? Any ideas of other items that would sound that way? Could the tranny make the same kind of sound?

Water pumps can whine for sure.

I have a similar very faint whine on mine also on drivers side, it is all the same parts though, cp3, water pump, power steering, etc

Disconnect the belt and fire it back up. That will eliminate the 2nd CP3, alternator, power steering pump, and vacuum pump (as if you still have that installed ). If the noise goes away, you know what to start checking. If not, it is valley CP3, or water pump.

Good point, I may try that. I have a feeling it's my 2nd cp3......

Tried that too. It almost has to be some kinda transferring noise. You can't hear it outside the truck. I picked up a electronic stethoscope to find its origination. If you could hear a noise outside it would be much easier.

i still have a whine/metal noise tried figureing it out till i was blue in the face gave up figured it would show up sooner or later still nothing after 46k miles so i was just like whatevs

mine did that really bad when i first start the motor after building it. i though the bottom end was coming apart. traced it down to the water pump after posting about it on here and johnny (gasuout) mentioned how his have all done that. its since quieted down quite a bit with 6-7k on it now.

I figured that I would update with the cause of the noise. It was a transfer from the CP3 to the Fuel block that was mounted to the firewall. I moved to the valve cover and no more noise.

Glad you found it, I hate those noises you cant pinpoint! I've been chasing a tick under load for a year or so and finally a local diesel mechanic was in a truck beside me while driving and said he would bet money its a injector overfueling.
