I am scheduled to start at the Norwood (Boston) campus December 8th for the Auto/Diesel Tech, and Ford Course but I don't think I'll be going. My Montgomery G.I. Bill would pay for all of it but the business is going good enough I don't want to put it on the backburner for 2 years. I'm trying to find a job for when I get out of the Marine Corps working in aviation maintenance - since I have all the training and 5 years of experience.

Good luck Kurt, I am about to be graduated from the Cat program.

I was hopeing after i am done to go to work for ring power. Not sure as of yet though. I sing up for the ford program but i can also go to huston texas for the big rig program. He told me either one i wanted at the time he can change my paper work. Another thing he told me is if i do the ford diesel program. And decided after i graduated from that i could go to houston texas and do the big rig diesel abosulty free. I dont no how true that is. But i will have all my ase certifications when i am done. Dont no how many years it will take but i will have them. Hopefully when i get out i will be building me a motor for snow flake and have a new DD duramax:D

it is, thats whats holding me back from doin it.

Curtis. Talk to one of the guys out your way. It dosent matter they can get u in. There are grants everywhere. Hell the guy even talked to my dad and could get him in. But dad already has his own thing going. Dont let that price tag hold u back. Thats what i was affiard of also but hell i would rather spin 34,000 now and in 2 years have it paid for and make 60,000 or more a year. Dont let nothing get in your way curtis if thats what u want go for it. Come to florida i need another duramax in my fleet. lol to much rise around here

I don't see dealer mechanics making $30/hr.

BTW, I'd go for the big rig stuff and forget about Ford, what happens if they go belly up? same for GM and Dodge, could happen anytime.

Get something that'll be useful five, ten or twenty five years from now.
Big rig motors are used in farm equipment, construction equipment and even boats.

I know I'm going to be cut out of diemaking and probably be stacking car parts off a transfer press soon  but i'll still have a job. I'm also doing more excavating work and picking up equipment just in case they close our factory.

Be careful with UTI man, I don't know how their diesel program is, but I do know alot of people are unsatisfied with their automotive performance program. I went to S.A.M. and learned to machine/build race engines a few years back, and we had quite a few guys that had already went to UTI and were left looking for more.
But again, that wasn't their diesel program, it could be great.
