I was just talking to James this weekend about the motor for the Mormon Missle, and about Curtis had into that thing....pretty bare-bones by most standards, but if I understand correctly, it was held at 1800 flywheel hp for 30 minutes on a dyno and tore down and inspected. It went right back together with the same parts as I understand it too. ;)

Come to think of it, my own motor is similar: It was run in the 09 Dirty Hooker, tore down, the heads and bearings were sent to Guy, Injectors tested at Exergy, all were like new so they all are now in my truck as they were when it was torn down

Thats impressive :thumb:

Don't know where that came from but it's completely wrong. Curtis had a boat engine program and they were dyno'd wide open for 30 minutes at 750-800hp. At that power level they held up fine with cut/coated stock LB7 pistons. The Missile engine(s) came later. It had a lot more, not bare-bones. Going by injector size Volker calculated about 1200 hp. There was more than one of them and they were never on a dyno.

ahh, then I stand corrected. Thanks Dave. the reason it was brought up in conversation was we were talking about stock balancer vs aftermarket

Just me but I would still skip out on heads, manifolds and balancer. Cost to power/reliabilty isn't enough for me. Just thoughts from a dumb guy though

Today for a mild build I would,

Build this to my liking! (Camaro)

Then for a xtreme build this to my liking! (Vette)

It's my money so I get to do what I want with it! :D

Would you start with a ZR1 like in the pic?

I'm assuming that your assuming I'm thinking a replant. If that were the case I would pick something nostalgic not new. My ultimate Duramax wouldn't be a Duramax unless it was a Powertrain option on a Build Your Own on the Chevrolet website.

Not looking to rain on the parade but the money it cost to buy a truck build the running gear set up the suspension and rubber it IMO you can for less money by right out of the box something quicker RELIABLE for less money! SORRY but that is my answer to the topic suggestion !!

Of course that is the daily driver answer. Race, well if you have the money to burn and that is your playground then the sky is the limit.
