You'd be suprised, it really doesn't.
I've seen a 3 lb. block of aluminum come out of a fixture on a Mori horizontal cutting with a 3/4" endmill at 14,000 rpm 350ipm 1/2" deep.
Hung on the tool just long enough to say bye bye Mr. $18,000 spindle. Didn't seem like that big of a deal until the operator started the spindle again. Bearings were not happy.
I've seen (and by seen I mean coming right for my face) a checker sized piece of aluminum shatter Mr. $1100 safety window. Good thing that window was there.
