LMM: U Joints

Long story short this my first time replacing the u joints on my truck. PITA but got them all out and new ones in and I have a question. I noticed the retaining clips are bowing out in the center but appear to be seated in the groove. To me that doesn’t seem normal but like I said first time doing them. So I’m beginning to wonder if these joins are the wrong size. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advanced

I had a similar issue when I did mine, my issue turned out to be the ears on the drive line were sprung( too wide spread) so I had to get a new one welded on the drive line. My clips were a real pain to get in.

If you bent the ears, this can happen. Did you fully seat both sides?

Did you use a 1485 joint? If you used a 1480, you have to use thinner retainer clips

I believe that’s what the problem is. They looked to be the same size as the old ones but I must’ve been wrong. Do you have a part number for the thinner clip?

I went ahead an ordered a 1 piece conversion kit. Always wanted to do it but was gunna wait a bit longer
