I don't remember is the replacement joints I got from Merchant had that coating or not...., but I'm assuming the anti-seize I "liberally" applied will keep the two dissimilar metals from wanting to become one nomatter what.

Basically a coating on the cups so they don't seize to the aluminum yoke...Steel and aluminum like to grow together it seems.

They'll look like this..

Do not use greasable u joints.

Agreed , I use only Spicer , ungreasable . They are stronger . True .

I have killed them also though . The guy at the driveline shop where I get my parts and driveline balanced was suprised .

I wasnt , dont think anything can take toasting 43" duals at 12K . :D

I also had a new driveline built with a big rig carrier bearing and a greasable slip yoke . I was on my 4th carrier and bent the rear half of the driveline again .

Believe it or not the kodiak came with the same carrier bearing the 2500-3500 uses . Always had a shutter off the line with trailer even new .

Now its been 6 months and still no vibration . Nice !!

So you're saying that if a person has the aluminum driveshaft they MUST use some sort of special Ujoint?

If so, what is the Spicer 1410 part number for this application? I have two 5-801x Ujoints sitting in the garage, and the ends arent that color.

BTW, I tried to pull one of the cups off, and they dont come off. Do I need some sort of secret password? LOL

No tom, you can put whatever joint you want to put into those yokes. The coated joints are just what is recommended....As stated earlier, a coat of anti-seize will do the same thing that coating does.

As far as getting the caps off, have your wife do it. Apparently she's tougher than you...:hehe: :D

On the aluminum driveshaft, yes. Not sure on the steel ones. I'd imagine they are, though.

That is a very Niffty tool but for $400 BUCKS !!!! You'd have to do a loy of U-joints to justify that kind of coin! He should have some air tools! :D
