FWIW, I just picked up a solid Spicer joint (the same one Tom posted), and it was $38 out the door. The greasable "Precision" U-joints where the $18 ones from Orielly, FWIW...

Don't want to resurrect but i just got a spicer greasable U Joint. The peak stress on the joint will occur at the outer most surfaces and not the inner most so the actual differences in strength should be relatively negligible, all things else ie tooling method and composition, being the same. It wouldn't be that hard to run a model of both through cad software and get some numbers if you have access to it.

Don't care what your software tells you. If you read around the forums over the past 10 plus years far more greasables have broke than non. And not just dmax's. Proof enought for me and many others.

If you break a greaseable spicer U-joint 1410 series ( most 01-07 classics are this size). Its either lack of mainteance, or you my friend are doin work.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure the greaseable spicers are cast cross, and the sealed OE spicers are a forged cross. Either way, the composition is not the same. Without looking, I also want to say the trunion size on the sealed/forged joint is larger than the greaseables.

There is no servicing sealed ujoints without taking them apart. If you take them apart, you need to replace them.

Do you mean pulling the bearing cap off? Lots of u joints you have to pull the cap off to get in the yoke. Aslong as you don't drop a bearing, they should be totally fine.

Like you said you in many cases need to pull the caps to install. As long as all none of the needle bearings fall your all set.

I may be a little green with the Dmax compared to many. While I know I could surely learn alot from you, the chances of you teaching me anything about U-joints is pretty slim :D

Why would I try to teach anyone about a ujoint? Not much too them. You can try and get as technical as you want about them. I just put in new ones.
