need help ASAP.

in the state of Texas, if an relative is buying a vehicle from me but has not paid in full, do they need the title in order to buy auto insurance?

I've gotten insurance on my mother and brother's vehicles with only a vin#, one is leased, one is paid for.
I and many others don't believe the title is necessary in order to recieve insurance from our own expierences.
Any help or verification will be greatly appreciated, before I upset some people on Thanksgiving day..:(

X2 on vin only. If I remember correctly I called and put insurance on my truck before I even bought it. Put it on when I was driving down to AZ to look at it and pick it up.

your insurance will cover a vehicle up to 15 days without it being registered in your name. The title makes no difference. It's the registration. A friend of mine lost a truck because it was in his uncles name who had passed away some years ago. Was never transferred over to his name. The insurance told him they needed a title from him for it. He told them NO he did not. They finally got him on the registration. And the DOT/DMV wouldn't let him register it without showing a title or proof of ownership. Which he couldn't get because his uncle was gone for quite a few years since. And another relative that he didn't get along with, but knew nothing of the truck wouldn't help. But yes. It's the registration that you need. And as long as they think you are still paying for it. Then you don't need the title. Just some kind of proof that you are buying it. But insurance will cover any vehicle for those 15 days without anything. Including letting them know you are driving it. If something happens then tell them you were thinking of buying it, and wanted to test it out first.
