These covers are 2.850" as a max machine tolerance. Having them built to fit the slug.

Extended tip= better spool then a Garrett

I'm looking at getting a Borg-Warner s400 with 80mm inducer 1.10 a/r exhaust housing for a twin setup on my LMM. Any thoughts on how well it'll do as the "bottom" or first stage compressor?

i would get a smaller turbine housing and it will be smoother transtiion between the two.acording to Tial you can use a 44mm wastegate for simaliar size.

this is a s480 iirc it has a 1.10 a/r turbine housing. the way it handles by it self should be a nice additon to a stock charger.

80mm is a fair size charger!I have a 74mm and its even big IMO
bigger than my 45 in actual size

gt4202 is a 74.7mm wheel 2.94"
gt4508 is a 80.8mm wheel 3.18"
gt4708 is a 80.7mm wheel 3.17"
gt4718 is a 88.0mm wheel 3.46"

as for out side diameters well that is going to be differnt pending manufacture.

Thanks Adam I realize my 45 is bigger internals,I was just pointing out the actual looks:)
why is the 45 bigger wheel than a 4708? or is that a typo? WHat else is different?
and are they all t4 or do they increase to the t6?

42xx runs a
T4 Inlet Flange or Large Diesel Inlet Flange
4508
The housing is designed with T4 inlet flange and a 4 ¾" V-band outlet.

both 47s are i believe a T6

as for the 4508 and the 4708.. being different dont know that is the info i pulled of the garrett site. but a .1mm wheel size diff is .0039" yet the compeser maps say the 4708 flows alot more.. might be a typo :dontknow:

If you can spool that GT55 it will be an awesome ride. That is one bad turbo. The map is just stupid!

I agree with vortecar. For thr money a S91 would be a good one and I beleive it can be had with a T4 to help spool it!

what are you spinning right now max?

gt5533 can be gotten for 3800 bucks

Sorry man i don't get here as much as i like.... I must have been quoted retail price. Not challenging you but that price may not include the exhaust side. IIRC the 55 series is sold split, independently.

By "spinning" I meant spin the charger sideways versus parallel to the cam. Intake can become an issue but in the end it's no big deal, move the brake fluid resovoir (typo) if a guy wants to get crazy with it.

Good luck regardless.

john. pulled this off of garret disputor links http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/m...OD&Product_Code=GRT-TBO-049&Category_Code=GLF
this is the turbine map for said charger
gt55turbine.jpg

i very certian a 64-67mm charge will generate more then 50lbmin of exhast flow;)
i am sure a s491 or a s591 could be made/had for cheaper.

I guess I am not following you.
It would light but be a little to far of a spread IMHO.
No twin expert. I was just told that If you spread them out to far you can keep things running well. Basicly you have to drive the heck out of the little turbo to get the big one lit. Effiency goes to hell. To make twins really work they should both be running well in there maps close to peak effiency the way I understand things. I am far from twin expert though.

You can have a S91 from Forced for under 2K so yeah it is deffinately more reasonable.

no expert here either BUT as i understand it. you wan the biger turbo to to start spooling when the small turbo is about 1/2 way maxed out and by the time the waste gate is fully open for the small charger you are already on top of the big charger.

take one example mika's truck, runs a 4088 with a.95 a/r with a 4718 with the 1.08 a/r housing and 60mm waste gates for both. when i talked to him via pms said once the 40 came on shortly after the boost would hit 80-90psi.
my idea on it is use small a/r housing and you wastegates to make then function as a bigger housing.

Comp_large.gif

take a look at 40lbmin on this chart. floating 2.25p/r (~20psig)on the 4088 charger. the 55 is at 1.5pr (5-10psig) and 40lbmin. we also no exhaust has more volume then intake.. say 130% more.. 40 * 1.3 is 52lbmin. with that said you could use the .9 or the 1.0 a/r housing and have a seamless spool. granted this is all rough.

from what mikas truck does and how it preforms related to the twins setup. i dont see why a 4088 or a 4094(be easier) would be able to handle a 5533 or comparable size turbo.
