Ok so Im sure this is a dumb question to 99% of you guys but as many know Im a noob to diesels. Just had a thought the other day though....

What would happen if you kept the VGT vanes open all the time (0%)(to sound like the LB7) or close to open at all rpms? Would you still make boost or no? I was just thinking what the difference was between a vgt and a non vgt turbo is and how boost is achieved.

You are better of keeping them at something like 50 or 60% if you want it to be close to an LB7. You would have to play with that number to see what is acceptable turbo lag with reasonable drive pressures

Anyone ever done this? Or am I just thinking too much...lol.

Are you asking what will happen if say the whole vane position table is set on say 0? It won't run worth a poo.. it'll spool eventually but it will be super laggy and suck..

Unplug your vane solenoid and go for a drive. You'll see

You can set the target vane table to zero, will still drive decent because the vanes will start to close up to reach the target boost table.

Where u at in Central Ohio? Im in Reynoldsburg.

In all honestly I was just wondering what would happen if it was doable. I dont have the writing software for an LML anyways and Im not bugging my tuner about it so.... Maybe when I switch tuners I will ask Kory.

Just seems the LBZ's have less hiss to them when on the throttle. Kinda like it better that way tbh. Hiss drives me nuts. If I want it to sound like an airplane Ill go to the airport.

If you don't like the hiss sound switch to a fixed vane turbo. Your never going to get the sound you want out of a VGT without making the truck a total turd.

Frazeysburg. Close to Zanesville on our side of town.

I didn't pay attention that you had an LML. If it was an older model, things might cooperate better in EFI.
