Turbo spool question

I have an 01lb.. at what rpm is the turbo supposed to start spooling? I dont hear it near as early like i can on cummins or powerstrokes

Do you have a boost gauge? Just because you don't hear it like a whiney 6.0 doesn't mean it isn't spooling.

no.. what is a good one? and do you put it in between turbo and wastegate?

If you add a cold air intake with an open filter element you will hear it.

diesel has good instructions on tapping for a boost gauge on their website.

Autometer, ISSPRO, and up until they started going out of business DiPricol are my favorites. I would recommend a 0-60PSI boost gauge and I always drill and tap for them right at the Y-bridge (after the intercooler right before the air goes in the motor) so you are actually seeing what the motor is getting. As was said an intake that deletes the resonator and has an open filter element will make it louder, but I personally don't like open filter elements sucking hot air under the hood - I prefer S&B and Banks sealed box intakes.
