Ok so I have a few questions I have for you turbo guys.
Ultimately my goal is to beat the manual trans record which is an 11.48 at 118. It's gonna be on a stock bottom end I know risky but hopefully it being light and never really low in the rpm range it might last.

I launch at a minimum of 4200 rpm to keep it from bogging down so far that it falls on its face. If all goes good it doesn't really bog under 2700 rpm. So it's never really in the low rpms, high 2k rpms I would think would be enough to keep even a big single happy.

I don't really know what would happen with a big single. If it did bog I'd be going nowhere fast lol. But I'm thinking if I could dump it at 4k and it bogs to 3k that should be plenty of rpms for a big single to start doing work.

On the other hand a s400 overstock sounds ideal but it's heavier and I don't wanna choke down the big charger with the stocker at the rpm range I tend to run in. I'm not worried about losing spool during shifts because I no lift shifts so that doesn't seem to be a problem.
After I launch I'm not to worried either way.

I'll be running dual pumps one stock and one sportsman, and 45 over nozzles. I'm open to ideas and criticism. The key here is low budget which is why I've thought about building the stock turbo to and getting it rebalanced but I don't think that's enough for my goals.

In your case I think a bigger single will work better than compounds. Your motor will certainly be happier.

I think a fmw 467.7/87 will be small enough to keep spooled and flows plenty more than a stock motor can take.

Good luck! I look forward to seeing this happen

I don't really wanna mess with a boosted launch by slipping the clutch on the line, clutches cost to much lol. And i had the s475 tct on the crew cab but never gotta mess with launching it before that one dropped a valve. I like the idea of the big single if it would come off of the line like I need it to.

Id definitely like to keep it a single of possible, but if I buy anything it's gonna be a big cheap box stocker s400

I remember a while back you was talking about your launches and not having much boost at 4,000 rpm..

Well I took mine up to 4 in neutral the other day and if I remember right I had 7 or 8 lbs of boost, I think that thing would light pretty quick with a clutch dump like you do.. My turbo has a 83mm turbine so not sure how a 87 would be different but seems like that'd be a good single for ya..

If i had any boost close to that at a free rev I could probably come off the line at a lower rpm. What kind of power would that turbo support as a single? I was thinking just a box stock s480. That might be fun depending on a launch. I'm usually running from 3 to 4k as far as rpms go so I need something that's gonna move some air up there. I don't want it to be more than I need but if I beat the record, 10s will be next on the list if the engine holds. So it would be nice to have room to grow.

A s480 won't be choked down by the stock turbo. Lot's of people have run that combo. I'm a Compound guy, I'll never run with out and extra turbo or 3 on my trucks:D

Yeah but a single is so much cooler lol, and lighter. I am on the fence though. I wonder if it would be Cheaper to build a twin over the stocker setup or build a kit for a single s400.

Probably be about the same if you can fab most of the twin kit yourself. No one ever said holy shit look at that single when you pop the hood, now a twin/tripple on the other hand...

87 turbine is definitely better than the 83. It's the same if not faster to light.

A 480 might take some work to keep alive. I don't think you'll have too much trouble at those rpms though.

If you do a small shot will help keep things moving along.

Why not a 475. It's the cheapest option too

Id be game for any of them that would work. Even if it bogged at the launch I can always bump up the rpms a little more, I'm sure without a staging limiter that works. I know I've came off the line higher than that before. I just like the simplicity of a single and less weight at the front of the truck.

Your stuck on that sb. But yes I agree short wheelbase would make it even more unique. If it comes off the line without bogging I don't know if I'll need spray lol. Unless I beat the record somehow and need to cover a few tenths to try for a 10.

I think I'm leaning towards a big remote mount single over on the passenger side. Pretty much pulling truck style like where a big twin would mount. I never wanna make a pedastal again lmao.

Just pick up a used one.. and it'll be lighter if everything is in the valley
