The truck I bought with a cracked piston & was partially taken apart and the turbo heat shield was missing so when I rebuild the engine and put it back together, I want to put the heat shield back or put a sock/blanket on the turbo. I don't know much about the sock. Anyone with much experience with the sock over the OEM shield? I need to get one or the other.

the sock from Levi does a hell of a job of keeping heat down under the hood and in the turbo. far better than what the stock one can do

The heat shield doesn't have the thermal shielding the sock does and its a PITA!
Just make sure to seal it with a hi temp silicone spray to protect it from deterioration.
