I know theres a thread on this around here.... cant find it.

Cant beleive Im here, but my motor is gonna be done at the end of the week! Then I figure a couple of weeks installing it and hopefully Ill be up and running by the end of May!

How do I go about tuning for larger injectors? It cant be as simple as reducing pulsewidth or duration by a certain percentage.... can it?

Is there some sort of formula or set way to do it, or is it pretty much 'guess and check'?

Ill have 60% overs.

from what i have been told
WOT decease buy same % of increase in injector..
example stock say 3000uS
60% over one would start at 1800-1900uS given pressure the same.

at idle one would increase uS little

granted i haven had the opurtunity to wrk this. this is what i have read from MDE, Pat, adn several other big tuners out there

subscribing ;), i thought i heard that it took a little more pressure at idle to smooth it out sometimes ?

SO what is the point of having bigger injectors then if your just going to decrease the pulse width? Better atomization? And due to the more fuel going out, the CP3(s) are getting worked just as hard. Seems like your canceling yourself out here.

I understand that there is proven results, I am just trying to understand WHY it works.

shorter duration meens you can get the fuel in faster and closer to the actual power stroke , and when you have dual cp3's you can run 2500ms @ 60 % over wich might be close to a 4000ms (stock injector) and do it @ 25 deg timming instead of 40 deg .

 I love it when things start to make sense. So essentially its easier on hard parts, and more power quicker?

to an extent on smaller tuning like 600 hp yes , but like i mentioned earlier when the hp get high enough every 1000 Ms of pusle width takes so many crank angle deg to hold the injector open that long so 4000 ms you would have to start spraying the injector way early and hold it open way late , not only is this going to way increase cylinder pressure it will mean alot of fuel will be sprayed way late into the power stroke basicly going out the tail pipe and increasing egt's and def not getting its full potential .

I decreased all my fuel by 20% with forty over sticks and modified my timing
I never had to adjust pressure but I also have duel cp3:)

But thats just what i did.....So not saying it is correct:angel:

why would you increase the duration at idle?

There is a pressure drop right after the injector opens, less pressure = less fuel at idle than stock...................so you have two choices, raise pressure or stretch pulse width.

If you smell raw, eye burning fuel at idle you have incomplete combustion.

You may have to change a few more tables too,

;)

I decrease all the fuel duration tables by a % and then modify all the timing tables accordingly to get it back to how it would be with stock injectors. I bump up idle pressure if necessary (many times it isn't - even on one stock CP3). Then after that I tune as you normally would, keeping in mind that changes to PW will have a larger affect than what they would with stock injectors.

That is just how I do it but it works well for me, keeps the tuning clean, allows you to make tow and economy tunes easier, and gets you the same mileage as you had before.

It helps when you get the injector flow vs pressure from stock injectors and the modified ones.

You can see at what pressure the flow changes from less than stock to more than stock.

I believe the only shop that has data that I have seen besides Volkker is Guy from Socal Diesel.

He provides me with the information when we tune a truck with his injectors.

The other trucks I have tuned without flow data I just rely on what the truck responds to and my past experiences.

Doing a little searching to try and figure out something. I have been having a tough time getting a base tune dialed in with my new setup, at idle it's smooth and quiet. Driving around 1600 rpms and above if I give more throttle to accelerate I'm getting some injector rattle. I have adjusted timing, pulse width, and pressure(which helped a bit) and a tune that Trent had sent to me a long time ago with some pilot adjustments and I still can't get much for results. Anyone care to share any info? I would really appreciate it
