Also, i dont know what your method of lighting the charger is, but in 4 low, the best way is to bring it up is real easy, and not flogging it, easy enough theres no black smoke till your ready to take off, if you put the pedal to the floor you will just put out the fire.

I'm coming up as slow as I can, but there is a ton of smoke. I think I am putting out the fire. I was wondering earlier in this thread if too much pw would do that. I can't really come up any slower on temp and throttle position. When brake boosting I can't come up slow enough not to make smoke. I think I have too much pw for the 60 overs.

I have 60 overs and i can come up with just a haze if im easy, lights a lot better two, of course i have twins so that makes a difference. What pulsewidth are you running? When is your wastegate set to open? Hopefully its not opening to soon.

Nope, just seemed like the stock air box would be way to big of a restriction for the amount of air you are trying to move. Plus the filter minder getting sucked in is dead giveaway.

P.S. I wasn't trying to be a dick. If my post came across as that, then I'm sorry. I was just trying to help you figure out the problem at hand.

I appreciate the help. I know this turbo moves ALOT more air than my 4094vn and the stock air box and tubing makes sense. I was just looking for someone who is running a big single. I understand the turbo will be harder to lite with smaller intake tubing, but it still should lite under brake boost.

I'm gonna try to take some pw and smoke away and see what happens tomorrow if I get a chance to drive it.

Wastegate has a 9lb spring in it plus maniflod boost holding it closed. I haven't change to the other port on the wastegate like the manufacturer said. I think someone we know  had too much going on the day he hooked up the wastegate. I gotta check the pulse width, but it smokes ALOT. Even at idle it is a haze.

Hey Kevin. Just to give you an idea about the air box when I installed my S&B and made some logs it pulled more air past the air meter than the stock ppe modded box would with my stock turbo. I belive AJ is running a 3.0 on his truck you could get ahold of him as his is running real strong.

Kev I run 30 overs it hazs at idle while warming up. I would like to see if mine would run better with a true 5" intake tube not hacked like mine is.

Rob is correct. However fact of the matter is this. Pumps are far better pushers than suckers, and this is an air pump. When I had my 4" intake it would take 250-300rpm more to light and a fat chick on a tricycle could beat me off the line and across an intersection (accelerating from idle). Pretty sorry. When I made the 5", I cut out that reducing area right after the turbo to the down pipe and made a bigger flange for the turbo to mate up, and made it a true 3" pipe all the way. The difference was good. It now would spool earlier and would come on much stronger (look Ma, I got air). I don't know about a 5" Pre I/C pipe being needed yet but the I/C only has 3" inlet anyway. If the charger has a 5.5" inlet you could probably get away with a 5" (5.5-5 reducer) and be fine with out starving it. What ever makes it easier to get air, will help decrease it's spool time. Try spooling it on a lower tune, then try it on a big one. Let us know what you observe. Both tests have to be equal though with the pedal mashed from the get go.

So Cal.
I currently run a Big single (3.2+" Non Bushed down) for a while now. My compressor housing has a 5" inlet. I have run a true 4" and a true 5" intake tube to a open airbox with a 5"x12" filter. A true 5" intake will make a huge difference.

Have you tired removing the bushing and see it it spools better? what psi does it make when lit with a good load on it?

Hom much main pulse does it have when your up on the brakes and trying to spool?

What do your EGT's get to when you are trying to spool? You will need at least 1000* on the pyro before a 3.0 charger will think about lighting. If you are not getting the hot you might be putting out the fire. I run 60% overs and a 3.0 charger and I do not smoke except a light haze when spooling off the line:thumb:
