Tuned lly duramax no added power between tunes

I was tuning a guys 05 lly and it took the tunes but switching from 1-5 theres no added power i can hit the rev limiter and it’s definitely tuned. Dsp5 was 100% installed correctly, absolutely no issues there. I’m wondering if it has a sensor preventing it from adding extra fuel. Boost pressure at idle is 15.5 and maf at 40 g/s.

What does "hit the rev limiter and it's definitely tuned" mean? Can you elaborate on how you know this or how your test indicates it's tuned?

I tested the switch it was good, pid for switch showed its working, full flash no codes. Pins in the pcm are clean and good. I did have trouble tuning the truck at first by just pulling the usual fuses, ended up getting frustrated and pulled every fuse other than pcm related and ignition fuses, after that it took the tunes, it wouldn’t be from pulling most of the fuses would it?

There’s two different ways you can setup the tune switching. Analog or digital. Digital/serial means the dsp switch you have won’t work and it’s looking for something like an edge or something through the OBD2 port to switch tunes. Analog is based off a dsp switch.

You may also need to bench flash the ecm. Are you full flashing or cal flashing?

Exactly. The simplest way to check if it is serial is to plug in your Efilive hardware, and under the tune menu select "switch tunes". If you can successfully select a tune level, then it's a serial switching tune.

Started out with the cal but after having issues went to full flashing, the tune is labeled with dsp5 so wouldn’t that 100% be for a switch? Ive never used digital.

The dsp tables are the same, just an option to change between serial data (an obd2 device like James said) or a hardwire switch. If the dsp voltages are changing while watching the pid then it's more than likely correct.

You DO need to full flash a dsp file for the first time at least

So what your saying is the tune will be labeled dsp5 but it can either be analog or digital? And yes the voltage is changing, why should you full flash first? I never even got to flashing the truck with the auto cal because of the fuse issue i had.

Going from a single / stock tune file to a dsp2 or dsp5 changes the operating system, which requires the ecm to be full flashed. The person you bought the autocal from should've explained all of this

Well does it make a difference since it wouldn’t flash with the auto cal but it took after full flashing?

If the full flash was successful then it should be OK. I would contact whoever wrote the tune file to verify it's setup correctly

I had an issue a while back on an LLY that I put a DSP5 tune on for some one. It was flashing through the OBD port. after going back and forth with log files and error files with EFI Live, we determined the best course of action would be to pull the ECU and Bench flash it. Even when it said it was complete and successful, the changes didn't take.


I was able to put the DSP5 tune on it originally through the OBD port but when we tried to make some changes a few months later to correct something, it would not take. The truck is basically stock with no wiring modifications.

My LLY worked fine with no issue.

That sounds about like whats happening to me, were you able to finally get it to work? The thing that has me confused is the truck took the tune and you can rev bang the truck like its been tuned but 1-5 is all the same power level. After this truck i probably will never tune a lly again.

you know the owner was tired of it and didn't really care so I never got to pull the ECU and try a bench flash.

LLY's are just finiky...

Well I guess I’ll try it if I can’t come up with anything else, I’ll give an update once I get it working.
