Got my trans back in the truck today. Everything seemed to go smoothly. Filled it up with fluid and all the other stuff.

Start truck let run for a while fluid level went down so added more to bring the level up to normal. Put it in gear and nothing. Rev it up a little and it'll bang in gear "forward and reverse" if I hold my foot on the throttle for a second while it's engaged the indicator light flashes let off throttle it stops flashing.

When the truck is in park or neutral it won't Rev like normal and wants to pull some in park. It also lunges a little when it starts in park. Any ideas? It doesn't throw any codes either.

Just noticed as well when the truck does try to move it's like the park brake is on. Something is holding it back.

What does your so called builder say? Without knowing what kit was used and how it was put together we don't know anything. This sounds like a beer build.

The so called builder was myself. I used a gmax 5r3 kit with pinwheel c3's and no beer was involved. Yes it was my first allison but not my first Tranny by a long shot.

The only issue putting together was the fact that I got sent all .086 thick steels "not all I had one .067" for the c2 clutch. So I think it was a little tight with a wave plate but compress the wave plate and it checked .080 tolerance.

I dicked with it some more and every now and then when in reverse it will pull forward and neutral does the same. Could a tight c2 cause this? More than likely I'll be pulling it back out and apart tomorrow.

A friend of mines did something similar after rebuild. he let it sit over night and tryed it again and it started to work. he was loading it on a trailer to take it back to the builder and it was fine, very strange but he's 20,000km trouble free now

So one rookie question I have. If the two bellhousing gaskets were on wrong, as in the front one is on the back and the latter what all will this do? I know I switched them because I thought it was wrong. Pretty sure I put it in to where the pump wear plate is steel on steel to the separator plate. Did I F that up?

Those gaskets only go one way, you would know by looking at it if it were on backwards. One has a big cutout for the stator and the other has a smaller cutout for the pump. And I'm pretty sure all the holes will only line up one way.

They can be crossed but you would have zero pressure.

It has pressure. I remember setting the gasket on and thinking that isn't right then I switched it. Tranny is back out and I'll tear into it tomorrow. I guess one thing I've learned is how to pull it out in an hour. It had sat for about 90 minutes before I pulled it and man was that torque converter hot. I didn't have it running all that long either. The motor only got up to about 160 degrees.

This truck is a wiring disaster. Previous owner had a dealer hack it up. The big nsbu plug has been replaced with some shotty work. And the plug for torque converter sensor has been replaced. It's got a plug that's the same as the rear output sensor plug that goes from the transfer case wiring to the transmission wiring that I had hooked into the rear output when I got the code. Switched it and code never came back.

Pulled the bellhousing off this morning and the gaskets were on the correct way. I'll tear deeper into it after work.

I believe I figured out my issue. Put in a phone call and got some answers that made sense. I pulled the bellhousing off with the trans standing on end. Should I just put the rotating part back in and bolt bellhousing back on or do I need to pull the back half apart and check to make sure nothing moved?

And the Torrington bearing on the end of the sun gear is in the right way before you drop in the drum

What did you find that was wrong?

What did you find that was wrong?

I had my c2 way too tight. I talked to George at suncoast today and he said with the raybestos clutches I shouldn't have been sent a wave plate. I didn't know this and put it together with what they sent. I knew it was tight but they sent parts so I put them in. I'll own up to the mistake. Hopefully now all is well with it.

When I explained to him what it was doing he said it's like a trans brake. Well yes I couldn't have put it in better words but that's exactly what it was acting like. He said with the c2 that tight it was probably trying to engage 3 gears at once not letting it move.
