Transfer Case Questions

ok, ive done some Googling, but either im not typing the words it wants to hear, or something, but im attempting to do research on swapping a transfer case from an 08 3500 into my 05 2500. i was told that it may not work, but why? can someone explain if it will or will not work, and if not, why will it not work?

thanks for any info, im in the process of converting to 4wd... came across an 08 model parts truck i can rob some stuff off of, and the transfer case is one of the parts.. but if it wont work, maybe i might have some bargaining parts lol?

The manual version can be made to work. The electronic uses a new encoder motor and TCCM - which talks GMLAN.

Here's a picture of a 08' t-case I just sold. As you can see in the picture the shift actuator is all different than 01-07 models. Pretty sure manual cases will interchange, but not electric shift.

On a plus side, isn't the gmt-900's case aluminum instead of magnesium?

Did you look at the picture I posted? They are totally diffferent, so no.

plus,the mounting studs are clocked differently.

I can confirm that the manual case will interchange. I put a '08 transfer case in my '01. Like was said here a few times already, the electronic ones won't.

Just looked. But haven't seen one from the earlier version, that's why I wanted to verify. Thanks for your info and the photo.
