So I drain the fluid in my Tcase the other day and little to my surprise the ear of a snap ring was attached to the magnet on the drain plug, so out came the transfer.

Thats the output shaft rear bearing. So my questions are, can I get just that snap ring? What type of transfer do I have, and what would cause this snap ring to break. It was actually in 3 pieces when I started to take it off. Wasn't having any trouble with the case either.

Everything is there and all looks great. I'm guessing the metal shavings are for om this dude getting chewed on. All the gears and shafts look perfectly fine

Yeah but really check the needle bearings at the end of that shaft in the planetary s and where the front output shaft rides in the back half of the case. Those seem to be the ones that take the hit from crap in the case

Do the gears look polished? Id bet its pump needs to be replaced at least. Mine did that and broke a fork and wiped out the case...

Honestly it all looks normal to me. I might go ahead and therow a pump in it while I have it apart. I actually picked up a spare Tcase a little while back so if it goes, not the end of the world, but I would like to fix this one. Can I go to the dealer and buy this stuff? Can't find much on the web and not really sure what type of Tcase it is like 263,etc

Its a dr smooth made by new process. Dealer cant even get the parts as far as I know. Most shops wont touch them for some reason, I couldn't even sell it as a core to transfer case direct, lol... As far as I know its still sitting in Dustins shop in the office where I left it 2 years ago...

Ok i will cjeck those out real well, thanks James. Would you be comfortable just getting a snap ring from anywhere or try to get an OEM?

Yeah I don't see why it's special.

It's not a 263 but shares a lot of parts in common. Look up merchants site and see what they have. I have not been into the new case much more than a pump rub kit but the innerds aren't much different than a 263

My snap ring broke into pieces and allowed the shaft to move in and out which made for some big bangs and errors from the speed sensor. Good catch! Might wanna make sure your yoke splines are lubed or greased well. I believe the axle twisting and torque applied to yoke put some serious stress on that clip.
