I put my truck on the lift this weekend to put on my new exhaust and noticed the undercarriage covered in oil. Had a mechanic come over and check it and he told me it looked like the Transfer case output shaft seal.

I drained it all out and put 2 quarts back in.. anyone else having this come up on the LML's yet?

Dealer has had it this week, tech determined the Transfer case gasket is leaking. Should have everything done tomorrow evening.

If replacing the seal doesn't stop the leak, consider transfer case rub-through as the culprit. The NV 263XHD case is famous for developing a hole from the inside out. A leaking seal will wet the underside only somewhat. If you are experiencing lots of oil on the underside, it's the transfer case. No fix, must be replaced but consider the aftermarket cuz GM will replace it with another of the same faulty design.

Yea the seal was the least of my problems. A few of the internal parts were cracked and some wore down teeth. Which is funny because the truck hasn't even been in 4x4 more than a few times (<5).

This is week three and it's still in the shop, the dealer told me my parts will be in mid August. :roflmao:

I told them that isn't gonna work.. We'll see where it goes from here.

Interesting how mid August turns into a few days when you argue it. Some people who don't have the balls to stand up for them self get screwed though and just accept it.

Did they give you a reason why the failure happened? Really suck not to fix the problem and have it happen again.

They never told me why. But it was leaking slowly and got low enough when I actually put the truck under a load (gooseneck, another dmax in tow) it finally showed it's face.

I never had a drop on the ground, weird actually.

But the problem is actually fixed, replaced the seal and the internals in the transfer case. No problems since.

I can post the work order of the parts replaced, a pretty decent list.

Shame you didn't see what the magnet looked like on the transfer drain, Was up under last week drained the T case only got a quart out of it. Magnet looked like a etch a sketch with all the fine shavings on it. No Leaks and nothing out of the ordinary going on. Filled it with Transynd and pulled the vent plug out and dropped another half quart on top for good measure.
Makes ya wonder if the gremlins are still with this series???
