Transfer case grinding

Ok would like some ideas here. About two years ago I had a problem with getting my truck into 4 wheel drive. When I am driving and it does not matter how fast, when I push the 4 wheel drive button, it grinds real loud and bangs into 4 wheel. It does go into 4 wheel drive and comes back out with no problem but just makes a loud grinding sound going in.

I hardly drive my truck at all any more so it gets parked for most of the year. So before I was to reinsure it again last summer I decided to pull the transfer case and install a pump rub kit and at the same time I took the whole transfer case apart and cleaned it completely out and then reinstalled it and fill it with Synthetic Transmission fluid.

I took it out and it still does the grinding noise when going into 4 wheel drive. I know this has happen with others but have not read a fix for it yet. Does anyone out there know what causes this and what I need to do to fix it?

Thanks Bruce

Mine transfer case did that same thing shortly after I bought the truck. Ended up installing new plastics on the shift fork (as Mike said) and replacing the 4x4 synchronizers. Shifts smooth as butter now :thumb:

Mike

Would you be able to line me up with the parts I need.

(1) New shift forks
(2) New plastics
(3) 4x4 synchronizers

I think if I am going to pull it out and redo it again I might as well replace these with new parts and hope that solves the problem.

Thanks
Bruce

No I don't carry any TC stuff.
Tony at All Season might have what you need as he does a lot of TC work. He is a vendor here.

Chevyburnout1, Where did you get the plastic inserts, synchronizers, etc? Mine grinds and I'd like to replace the same parts when I'm in there putting in the pump rub kit.
Can someone provide part numbers so I can get the correct parts?
Thanks,
Chad

What I did was do my research and went on eBay, typed in exactly what I was looking for and there are several vendors on there that have good deals, I ended up getting the pump rub kit, full rebuild kit, new shift fork, mine was worn into the casting, and a new chain for 330$ I already had a mode fork so it was basically brand new after that. Need any more info just pm me and I can try to lead you in the right direction.

Did you get the pump saver plate listed on ebay or did you run a merchant auto?
