Well driving the dually past few days 91-92 ish degrees midwest day the trans has been getting pretty warm, alot warmer than I expected. Today it actually hit 225, unloaded. Got it home and felt the cooler, it was essentially ambiant air temp, then checked pan. Damn near burnt my hand.

Figured I'd swap filter and check level. Fluid was pretty low, can't find any leaks or anything. Swapped filter also.

Was about 195 when I left took it for a 5 mile ish drive and came home, was 205.

Cooler still ambient temp.

Figuring cooler is plugged up? Its clear of debris and bugs. Anybody got anything else it could be? TC is locking up it seems as I can feel it, other than temp it runs fines, shifts fine and whatnot.

Sounds like the screan is plugged in the cooler you need to find a trans shop that has 1 of those cleaners that hooks on to the cooler were the trans lines hook to it and it pulses the fluid back and forth and cleans the screan and the cooler.

Screen in the cooler or in the line itself Scott?

Screan in the cooler. Its designed to catch clutch particals and anyother garbage that may get in there, the bad thing is when it starts getting covered the trans temp starts going up.

Before you spend any money pull the lines out of your heat exchanger and have a look. Mine was packed full of crap. Had to replace the radiator. Found out the hard way that Allison will not stay cool without the heat exchanger.

X2 pull the bottom line out of the radiator if there is anything there that is where it will be you can take the fitting out to help clean it pull the radiator is the best way

Well some good and bad news......Cooler was a bit clogged, after I finally got it off....one line was completely seized up and ended up having to cut the fitting in half and pry it out. Well the cooler gets warmer now, but think the inlet is clogged up a bit too. I looked inside the top port on the radiator and it was free of debris.

So I'll pull the bottom one on wednesday and see what I can figure out.

But today, on the way home I got up 186 degrees, ICT was 183 and ambiant was 85. So hopefully I cant get it lower. But seems to be alot better. Big test will be this weekend with a 3 hour drive home for festivities.

drove it for about an hour straight today....was kinda cool out 70-75.....but temps stayed about 100-110 above ambient. Hottest it got was 186 and stayed there. Think I may have her licked. If not, probably end up building the trans and ripping the side of the radiator off and letting the cooler sit in a parts cleaner overnight and wash it in alcohol after.

Found a nice thread over on Diesel bombers that show you everything.
