i have a buddy that is an assistant service manager at a chevy dealer. he is going to try and have my cluster and trans replaced under warranty. strange thing he told me though, he said that if they do warranty the trans, i would have to pay the labor on it b/c it's over 70k miles. my truck just rolled 70k while i was on my trip.

anyone ever heard of that before?

thanks
kyle

The Norco's
Dealers have many tools to use to help good standing customers. Sometimes they split the job total by a certain % with the customer or split it between the manufactur, dealer and customer. It always pays to never burn a bridge at a dealer you have spent some money with, attitude is everything and a bad one gets you nothing most of the time.

oh i understand that. you don't shit where you eat.

but with the truck still under the 100k mi drivetrain warranty, the only thing i can see me paying would be the $50 diesel service fee. why would i have to pay for labor.

im confused...01-06 had 100k mile engine warranty only. Trans was covered under the standard 3/36 warranty. Only 07+ trucks have the engine and trans covered under the 100k mile warranty.

How would yours still be under warranty seeing as its an 05 and over 36k miles??

hmmm didn't know it was only the engine up to 100k. i thought it was 100k mi drivetrain including the trans.

maybe that's the reason he said i will just have to pay labor. idk we're going fishing tomorrow so i'll see what he says.

oh i hear ya. but if i can get it done for nothing under warranty i'm all game for that.

if he tells me i'll have to pay it's gonna have to wait cause i'm broke right now. times like this make me wish i had a credit card.

07 and up is drivetrain, 06 and older is JUST the engine. Already been there done that on my 06 back when I was having some weird vibration/metallic noises from under the truck. Ended up being the stock exhaust, after I replaced it with the corsa it went away.

Why don't you just put an SCIII or IV in it? If you put stock parts in, you're wasting your money and GMs money. It should not be under warranty for ANY reason.

Its called good will, I got a new transfercase right after mine went out of warranty (3/36). I paid 250 bucks and was happy. If you can get anything warranty wise from GM take it. JMO.

If you don't mind sharing, could you educate me on why you would choose a BD trans over a SC or similar product? Thanks

ask if you can supply parts and they pick up labor. That way the tech is gonna decide how much GM will be paying (which should be cheap if he knows what hes doing) and you get to supply "good" parts like from SC....

well we sell quite a few BD transmissions and have never had an issue with one. they are a great company to deal with, they have a very nice warranty and if they ever was an issue they cover labor as well.

oh and being their largest dealer helps a bit too. we don't deal with SC but i think even if we did i would still go with the BD. they helped me out in the past when i broke the yoke on my trans by shipping me another one next day at no cost.

i do think i'm gonna do a BD converter while it's out though. it's the least i could do. i'd like to just have them rebuild it, you're right it would be cheaper for them.
