Where would be the best location to tap for Trans Temp? I do not have the HD gauge cluster. Since I am certain I can't just swap in the cluster I need to know where someone would recommend.

I was considering the pressure tap next to the spin-on filter but I am concerned about the pressure the brass fittings would need to endure.

Thanks.

you CAN just swap in the cluster... ;)

as long as you have a factory TCM and whatnot, a cluster with a trans temp gauge is plug and play. It gets the info over the data bus, its not a discrete temperature signal/input to the cluster or anything.

I was going to try that but the TCM is a stand-alone. I assume the factory sensor is somewhere in the system I just need to figure where that is and try to make it work.

its in the PSM. Does your 'standalone' TCM work with a tech 2? If it works with the Tech 2 and your PRND321 display works, Im 99.99999% sure a cluster with a trans temp gauge would be plug and play too.

Ben, I have to wire one wire into port 2 on the OBDII connector. I read through my Chilton, which may just not show the circuit, but I can't find for my truck to be pre-wired for it. Hell, if it was it probably got taken out with the Cummins swap since the 4L80 came out in favor of the NV4500. I appreciate the help. I do have the steering column and everything to make it look stock and found the wire to make the tow/haul work.

Thanks ferm. I still don't weld all that well but I may see if one of the guys here can weld that in for me, if I can't figure out how to wire it in.

as I said before, the trans temp signal from the TCM to the cluster is over the databus. All clusters have a data wire going to them, as long as you havent hacked the harness going into the back of the cluster. So if you have a data wire going into the TCM (which you have to), and you have a data wire going into the cluster (which you have to, otherwise it wouldnt work), then a trans temp gauge equipped cluster will be plug and play...

I would just try it...a used cluster with a trans temp gauge shouldnt be that much more expensive than a nice electric trans temp gauge. Plus the factory sensor is in a much better place. Taking a reading of the pan fluid temp doesnt really tell you much.
