trans issue after build

my buddy just built his trans and has issues with shifting from park to drive and vice versa. it seems to clunk when going to and from p to d. there are no codes according to him. he said it upshifts fine and downshifts fine too. normal shifting isnt the problem. problem is if say you go to do a brake torque you lose the "gas" pedal. as in you could floor it and it doesn;t do anything while holding the brake. originally he put the wrong converter bolts in(stock ones instead of the ones that came with the converter). he has the new bolts in now. taps were supposedly cleared with is tuner. kit is a ml stage 4 with ml precision converter. any ideas???

If he installed the factory converter bilts and tightened them he probably damaged the converter clutch. The factory bolts are way too long and will dimple the billet cover and drag the clutches all the time.

My truck did the same thing when my converter was bad. Could floor it and wouldn't do anything, converter would shudder under heavy power as well.

Hope you figure it out.

well is it an lbz, lb7, lly, etc.. need a little more info here.

its clunking because the garage adapts didnt get reset. you can only do this with allison DOC or a tech 2.

you also need to be more specific when you say he loses the gas pedal. Does the engine sound like its trying to rev but its loading up against something? Or does the pedal not respond as if the engine is ignoring apps info? put a tech 2 on it and watch driver demanded torque, throttle %, and base torque, and tell us what those values do when you brake torque it. Im assuming you already tried that though, because any advice my idiot pea brain can come up with, you should know too. :rolleyes:
