I did another drain and fill last night, fluid was still a little dark, converter must hold more than I thought, but that's 24 qts total ran through it. I'll def service it at 25k next time.

takes about 24-26 quarts to flush the system with new stuff. i usually do the "hoot method" or just pull a cooler line and drain 5 quarts into a bucket, refill, repeat till fresh fluid comes out.

Shit, yeah I completely forgot about doing it that way, I'll do it that way next time, shouldn't take long, been averaging 1000-1400 miles a hitch and 1800-2000 miles a month.

just make sure you dont run the pan dry when you do it. i poured 5 quarts of water in a 5 gal bucket, marked a line, and went to town. my truck being lifted, i can slide the bucket under the truck and just have a short hose drop into the bucket. remote start the truck, watch it fill, remote start it off. im a lazy mec-in-neck

Read from page 1 so cathcing up..

Are you guys doing the internal filter each fluid service? Had thought it wasn't necessary that often.

I know up to this point, i've been using transynd/torque drive. Have done external filters and 2 pan drain/fills in the 30k ive owned the truck. I spoke with Evan who's doing my trans in feb and he said he likes dex3. Ill have to ask him what maintenance differences there will be. I tend to overmaintain anyways so not too worried. Majorly excited to have this trans in though

I just love having a drain. my last pickups were all mandatory pan drops. I always question the seal after tinker with mating surfaces, probably cuz many times im in my driveway and on my back lol

The seals on these pans are hard to **** up or wear out.

Yes, I do an internal filter each time, you'd be surprised what they pick up in a built trans or a beat to death stock trans.

Good to know.

Yeah i know theyre good seals, but i break things or myself usually. It's a good cycle cuz I always have something to fix hehe. optometrist just yelled at me in fact yesterday for having a few metal shards in my cornea. she said "doesn't that hurt?" I said "nah not really, rubbed it in pretty good so my blinkers go smooth". she wasnt happy lol

That sucks, everything drives my eyes nuts.

I'm pretty hard on everything I touch, think it's karma from being such an expensive kid.

The gaskets are almost 3/8" thick with steel in the center and rubber coated.
I bent one on my LLY early on and it lasted until I put the deep pan on at 140ish thousand miles.

roger good to know they are you proof, means im probably good. I think Evan is gonna laugh at a few of the goof ups i've had and the evidence left behind.

honestly i dont even feel it, shes yanking them out today before they "rust"....when she said they will rust, I said i'm pretty sure thats 304 so if rust is the only concern im good, no need to fight with my insurance company haha

I've tried that early on in my oilfield career and although I slept quite a few miles trouble free, the occasional guard rail or road bank and waking up in the median sideways at 75, I decided I wasn't good enough to "do it in my sleep", thank god for wide rims, big bumpers and a guardian angel.

lmao. just one eye shut after the watering hole:beer

Haha, yep sadly I've done that a time or twenty, gave that up too, its expensive when you go on whisky driven rampages.

On another note, I've put 200 miles on my trans since the service and it's still shifting lazy, esp the 3-4 downshift, been so long since I've been in another LMM if it's normal or not. It's all more pronounced in tow/haul

Hah mines a 14 model with 136,000 on it and on original fluid and filter... also put 265,000 on a lb7 and never changed the trans fluid or spin on call me crazy but have never had one fail yet

You're crazy! ;) but seriously, if nothing else, please, for me, change your spin on. They are 10 dollars from Allison and you will notice better shifting.

At least I do.
