Who here runs strictly a trans cooler only, no factory lines or ran through radiator?

The new setup I want to run will have the trans cooler in the bed, AN lines and hyd hose running to/from trans. Will not be using factory radiator or hard lines, as it wont see much street use, and if it does, will have enough cooling to keep the trans happy.

I cant find a big enough cooler (thinking 20"x20") so I can fit a large fan on it.

Who has done what?

I do. I didnt install it but it is two Setrab coolers with fans. Mounted to the bed, they draw air from the space between the cab and bed. Surprisingly they keep hte trans pretty cool, especially considering the pressures I am running. Normal driving it runs about 120* F over ambient. It also warms up a little faster than my other truck, which could be a result of a looser converter.

I remember what that setup looks like when I talked to the previous owner of your truck Phil. A pair of coolers with 10" fans would be ok for me, just have to find the right size cooler.

I moved my Earls cooler from the front to the bed of my
2.6 puller and plumbed it with hydraulic hose. I also added a small electric fan to it. I have not street driven truck with the cooler in the bed, but did do one pull since moving it and tranny stayed cool.

How much street driving do you do with that truck? With my loose converter and normal transmission fluid route I'm lucky to see 130°. I am contemplating moving to just the cooler under the bed this winter when I move fuel and battery back there. Add a fan for safety but make sure it is placed right to get air through it as well.

I drive it every day, it is my DD when it isn't broken. The trans warms up way faster than my other truck, but levels out once it gets above 160 degrees. Then it really slows down. I have not seen over 200 degrees with it yet, even with the temp over 85 degrees and at the track.

These are two big coolers though with fans that run full time.

Any pictures by any chance?

I agree with verlon. The BD double stack unit with built in fan is a nice piece. Included a very nice wiring harness as well. Would work perfect in the bed. I ended up removing the fan and shroud from kine amd mounting it in the stock location with some drp high flow lines. Worked out awesome.

I'm running the dual stack bd on my white truck. I have it mounted in the front of the bed drawing air from between the cab & bed like mentioned above. I have mine on a toggle switch though so I can keep it running when hot lapping. Something that surprised me is daily driving I never need the fan on. Even with a very loose converter that likes to build heat, the air blowing through it was enough to keep it the trans cool. With the fan on it stays really cool.
