Mechanically its not much different , C1-C2 rotating assembly is better and it has some updated hydrolics ( esentually the trango ) and different valve body obviously , the electronics are better on the newer years but i dont think it would matter much for towing because you would be spending most of your time in 5th anyway instead of 6th .

Awesome thanks for the info, I noticed it seemed that the same model/option of truck with 6spd seemed to cost more then the 5 spd , is there something else on the truck that would make them more?

04 is an LB7, 04.5 to 05 is an LLY they come with 5 speeds and 06 to 07 are LBZ's there are some early 06 LLY's but are basically detuned LBZ's that come with 6 speeds. There are some also some 07.5 new body style LMM's that also come with 6 speeds. That is most likely the price difference you are seeing.

all the gear ratios are the sane except for 6th obviously which is around 300 rpm lower then 5th

Is there any major faults on the LLY 05 trans, I am looking at a GMC 2500HD right now
