Tranny issues

Guys,
I've searched around and can't find a good answer. Can someone please give me the scoop on these allison tranny's? I have shifting/de-fueling issues on the big tune with EFI live. Bad shift flare from 4-5. Is there any answer to override the torque management system. The tranny holds the power fine when in gear. (not blowing through the convertor) I just wish it would shift like my manual valve body turbo 350 in my 55 Chevy Bel-Air. I have an ATS tranny with the co-pilot, convertor, front pump. What do I need to do? Engine has mods too. Dynoe'd 600/1243. 03 LB7. Please feel free to move this post if it isn't in the right spot.

Yea, got the co-pilot...even in race mode, with the tow haul on, trying to get the TCM to "re-learn" it doesn't seem to help. Do I need an upgraded valve body or shift kit of some sort?? I'd rather it bang gears and rattle my teeth out than what it's doing now. I know the truck is capable of running in the high 11's with the mods..just can't iron out the tranny.

No, you really don't want an Allison to bang gears. It is fully capable of being in two ratios at once, and it will bust hardparts.

You might not want to hear this, but there has been a history of ATS problems. Some the of the clutch disks aren't mfr'd correct.

But first try moving up your shift points 10% and see if it gets better.

I know there is a solution that is being tested as we speak, but that's all I can say until the testing is done. But if you have cratered or delaminated disks, there is nothing that can really fix it but new ones.

So, basically it's a clutch disk issue then..?? I didn't get some of the upgraded clutch packs. Can you recommend some good ones that will work well with the other stuff I have? I'm not opposed to going suncoast or something else?

All three of trucks are currently using Suncoast disks, mostly because I had poor luck with ATS disks when I tried them. It's about time for me to re-evaluate them, but for now, I cannot recommend them.

PS - I do not sell trans parts, and I'm not sponsored by Suncoast. My opinion and experience is purely as a consumer.

10-4 on that Pat...I guess I'll do a rebuild on the tranny this summer some time. Hopefully, this will iron out the tranny and I can finally run it hard and hope for some good results on the track. As far as the rest of the transmission...do I need anything else to accomodate a good race tranny?? Thanks again for all that you do for the diesel world.

stock TCM...I'll start looking for an 01 TCM. I figured the 01-to early 04 were all the same. Do I need to do anything different in the TCM as far as programming goes. (besides moving up shift points) I want this tranny done now!!

Thanks,

JJ

Is there a tutorial on raising the shift points?

I should do one, but here are the basics:

At a minimum you are going to do the WOT upshifting. There is a MPH and a RPM. I raise both by the same percentage, all the columns. I believe they need to do this in case the converter is unlocked to insure it still shifts at right RPM, dunno.

If you have EFILive I can email you a TCM that I made that has fixed shifting issues on 4 different built-trans trucks locally to me...
