Looking for a converter for a truck that tows heavy loads (10-15Klbs) every other weekend but also plays hard during the week with no load. Truck will be driven an average of 100miles per day during the week and when towing on the weekends the trips could be 500-1500miles.

Converter will be going into a stock trans with the transgo jr kit. I will be running no more than a 110hp tune when empty and 50hp tune when towing.

I've noticed that there are a few used SC1057's floating around for sale, would this converter be too tight or is that good for towing? Ideally I would like to have Mike's converter but the budget is tight and used sounds like a good option. But thats why I'm on here asking advice from those of you who have been around this market for a long time.

Really what I'm asking is would a used SC 1057 be a good option or not.

The truck -
08 LMM 4x4
Transgo Jr
38K miles
EFILive
5" turbo back

Thanks,
Russ

I would think the 1057 would be fine.

Your prolly gonna get responses saying you should build the trans while its out also.:D

If you have it out you might as well build it.

Couldn't resist, but it isn't that bad of a job to put a stage 3 in if you get it from a reputeable vendor who will get you the right parts. If you have it out for a converter, the hardest part of the job is already done.

why are you unhappy with the stock converter?

i would do 1054 if towing is your main concern and you dont plan on changing the turbo..

but as others said while its out might as well build it

Ok, if the tranny comes out I'm going to at least go with Mike's converter and if I can I will go into the clutch packs to get at least a stage III and maybe a stage IV. that will depend on time and money at the time of the build.

For the time being, I need to test and log data to determine if my issues are from the torque management tables.

Thanks for the words of advice Mike! :thumb:

If you can get a deal on a 1057, go for it. I've had one for over 2 years and have yet to see anything it wouldnt do well. I play around with a 500+ HP tune and tow a 9,000 lb 5th wheel camper. I've never had any trouble with spoolup while towing heavy. On edit, after I posted I noticed you've made the decision to get Mike's converter, you wont be disapointed from what I hear.

1056, its the best converter SC makes! Or go with one of Mike's units. I haven't had one but I hear they are badass:D

Got 6k on mikes stage 4 and converter. ive hauled 13k so far just around town on lvl 7 on the PPE and she had no issues with turbo spool nor any issues pullin around town (got up to 55 mph at most). Ive also raced at the track and to me it seems to work perfect for boostin up and launchin (lvl 9 at that time).

Ill be haulin about 10k this weekend out to the dunes and droppin the PPE to lvl 4 to see how it does EGT, motor/trans temp, and boost wise. May bump it up or go lower depending on how everything acts on the way out. Not worried about the trans though as a certain someone told me ill loose the engine before this trans when towin ;)
