Wierd topic, but...

Seriously? Do they enforce this? How much over is one good for if they were hypothetically towing a race truck to AZ from Oregon?

I know there are a fair amount of people from the state. Any insight?

Yes, it does suck:mad:. We usually set the cruise for 65. But, if you see the 18 wheelers slow down to 55 then you should also pronto.

becarful at the borders. CHP likes to sit at the AZ/Cali borders as most of us AZ guys forget we set the cruise at 75 and hit the cali 55 speedlimits, next thing you know CHP is behind ya with lights on or drivin next to you flashing 55 with their hands lol. really freakin dumb though

Its hit or miss for me. I have never got a ticket but I have had CHP call me a A$$ hole and tell me to slow down over there loud horn. was doing about 68 bolt times.
If your going 700 miles doing 65mph over 55mph you only gain 2 hours at best.

The only person doing 55 in cali is the person in the break down lane changing a flat. 65mph for me, I still towed at 75 when I went to the dunes. :D

Towing 55 in CA

I got pulled over for 65 in Cali towing. The CHP was a jerk but still let me off with a warning. 59 MPH for me from now on in Cali.

I run hard with the trailer ... 75 usually . Just like the others said .... pay attention to the big rigs . If they slow down it means smokey is in the area .

A CB might be a good idea and you can hear the rigs ahead of you .. Ch 19 usually . Radar detector is good idea also if you want to make some time .

Main answer to your ? .... yes they will roll you for over 55 towing in Cali . :thumb:

Its a slow roll going that slow though ... Id go nuts at that speed . :D

I've always towed hard in Cali too (70-75) and never had a problem,, just don't be the dick passing everyone running 10mph faster and you'll be fine is kinda my rule of thumb and it's worked for me most of the time. I always had a CB in my truck I traveled in and watched the flow of big rig traffic close. Those guys always know where 5oh is lol.

So.....................what?
If you pull ANY kind of trailer in California they want you to only drive 55mph?
Dumbest thing I have ever heard-unless it is at night through the mountains only..........

just get a radar detector;) we had one when we caravaned up to Sac towing Jasons truck:thumb:

A radar laser detector is useless except it gives you advanced notice that you are caught so you can hide any illegal items you may have out in the open or eat a box of mints prior to the officer walking up to your window.

Back in the day before laser and instant on radar they were usefull. Today cops will ride around with their fixed radar units on just to slow traffic giving you a false hit and it works.

You might get lucky if he's gunning for a car or truck in front of you but chances are if it's you and you done.

Radar detectors give you false security IMO. Not worth it

I've gotten a couple tickets with a Valentine I . Mine is fixed hard wired in my Dually. Word of caution when you get pulled over don't forget to turn off the squealing blinking radar detector going off before the cop gets to your window. It kind off annoys them and chances of getting a break go out the window. :woott:

Been there done that. :roflmao:
