Can you elaborate? I don't exactly understand what you're asking.

The Allison learns your driving habits. You get two different profiles. Regular and tow haul. Some guys have their tow haul mode set for aggressive driving. You also get lockup when you get to 2nd. If you go wot with tow haul off it will lockup anyway.

Yeah that's what I said. In tow haul it locks up sooner and in 2nd under normal driving circumstances.

Even with it off if you step on it the tc will lockup. There are some other differences I don't recall at the moment. Need Mike to elaborate.

Search will yield more results. This topic has been beaten to death time and time again.

Normal mode or tow haul mode have the same shift parameters under WOT so it "shouldn't matter" what mode you are in although some have actually seen a difference on the track.

T/H mode has the TC clutch lock up a lot sooner.. Equals truck runs faster

no...adam...

You go WOT on an allison, it locks the converter clutch right away regardless of speed or whether its in t/h mode or not***

***provided you arent running big power that exceeds the TCC protection slip-limit tables in the TCM, in which case running tow/haul mode wont do crap for you either.

To two test both in TH one with 20k behind it the other not. Do a part throttle acceleration up a hill.

No trailer the TCC is locked by 15-20mph.. Loaded I have had it wait till 40 mph before the TCC locks.
Table says it to be locked by 15mph. Regardless of throttle %
If I have ~1000rpm or more difference between engine rpm and transmission input rpm it won't lock thebTCC..
As of right now.. Plan is to haul one of these from wheeling wv back to NW Ohio.its ~9-10000lb and 10' tall.. I'll video part throttle accel empty and loaded.. I will be grossing around 24,000lbs tottal

Shift timing is different as is RPM between the non-TH and TH. On the drag strip some trucks perform better in TH, some don't. Try it and see which yours likes.

Just remember that without modification to the converter flow valve; pressure drops 100psi when the converter clutch locks.

Your talking part throttle, Mike and Ben are talking full throttle. there will be a difference at part throttle as you said. at a drag strip, you wont be going part throttle so you gain nothing unless your truck is one of those "weird ones"

Torque Converter slip is still slip. If I'm over 1000rpm difference it will not engage the TCC until either I back out of the throttle or tranny catches up..

How else you explain TCC not locking up until 40mph under a load and 15mph empty with nothing changed both in T/H.

My LB7 wouldn't lock TCC until 50mph at WOT but would empty @15mph and around 40mph with a trailer behind it. All while in T/H

2nd gear at 20mph with 3.73 and 32" is 1400rpm on the input shaft... I have held engine at 2700rpm all the way to 45mph while loaded.
I have logs of my LB7 holding 3200rpm all the way to 50mph with less than 100rpm difference from the start at cal speed way.. All in TH only explanation is TC slip
