How in the hell am I gonna tighten this little guy up lol. Just wondering if anyone has done this before and what tool they used. The other bolt is tigtened to GM spec, this one is hard to get to and its leaking a drip every few seconds. Couldn't find my 12 mil crowfoot (think I lent it out and didn't get it back:() Will one of those work or have yall needed those funny halfmoon, or s wrenches? Never opposed to cutting an old wrench up and welding it in a funny angle either, I just see this being a huge pain in the ass. fwiw this on the oil cooler, rusty thing is the front drive and the blue thing is the oil filter

Really hoping I don't have to pull the motor again for this little leak. If thats the case, I'll just go at her with the caulk gun and a full bottle of gasketmaker. Please tell me otherwise

Can you get a ratcheting box end wrench in there? Opps. Now I remember. I put it on the filter housing first, then on the back plate. Maybe a open end wrench with little baby turns, then flip it over and baby turn, flip it,,,,,, Other wise you will need to put the oil filter housing back off.

Can't get a 1/4 rachet on it, it was too deep. Tried a gearwrench through-hole ratchet and the head is too fat diameter. Tried a gearwrench, head was too fat too. Probably need an extra long open end wrench. Might have to remove the filter, and the front drive shaft to get a turning angle. Hoping there was something I didn't know about where I didn't have to remove anything else

I work on old rusty docks alot, sometimes I can us a long screwdriver or cold chisel and hit the edge of the nut (or in this case bolt head) to drive it tighter. Its going to make the bolt so you wont be able to use a wrench on it again but you cant use a wrench anyway. Maybe a half of a turn will do the trick. Good luck!:thumb:

Have you had to do this? Someone on the place said the trans, flywheel, rear adapter and the lower pan needs removed. F that. That's what I was thinking would fit, but I hope I can lock wrenchs to get more on it. Good excuse to buy a whole mess of tools while I'm shopping.

Why can you not remove the two twelves holding it to the rear adapter plate and then remove the oil cooler and it together , then remove the the 90* , replace the gasket , tighten the two 12mm bolts to the cooler and the reassemble as a whole ?

Could do that. But if I can get away without that I will try. Don't wanna deal with losing that coolant, plus I think that other o ring gasket will be a pain in the ass to keep lined up installing it. And yes Mitch, at least it idles. Got the shortblock back Tuesday and started it for the first time about 730 lastnight. Im waiting to get a new tune sent me before I can drive urn should be soon though in hoping.

Yes I have done it. If you can take that good of a straight on photo of the bolt, you can get a wrench on it.

Is it loose or just leaking ? Often times if its leaking the gasket has to be replaced unless the bolt is juts loose , any more we replace them every time , had them leak more than once re-using them and its not hard but is a PITA .

X2 , more than once , a box end of a 12 point wrench is about all that will fit , a wrench cut in half works best or a stubby .

Its just leaking, which is weird. It was a new gasket. I got a long wrench on it but it wouldn't turn cause of the oil filter being hit.. I rigged it wil gasket maker, gonna change the gasket when I change the oil next. Just don't want to be leaking coolant in the street of the guys house I'm working on for now.
