On a full cab replacement in Michigan, they will actually assign the truck a new VIN. Not sure about NY. But they know the replacement cab is from a salvage yard, that's why salvage yards exist.

Could you explain a little more on this. Does that mean they change the vin in the system to match the replacement cab? Do they make up a number and actually replace the vin badge on the cab? How does this vin match up to the manufacturer's coding?

I ask this because a few year back I did a color change on a truck and the next time I got stopped the officer checked the vin because the color didn't match the registration. It didn't cause a problem I just found it interesting at the time.

They make a sticker and apply it to the driver's side door jamb. The VIN they assign is only for licence plates registration etc.

They make no effort to correlate it back to the manufacturer's VIN.

Any of your RPO codes would need to be referenced back to the OEM VIN.

So been about a month since my accident got everything straightened out with insurcance. And finally got a new truck, 2008 Sierra 3500hd SLT fully loaded with only 80k miles. This thing is pristine!! Already debadged it and threw my bumper on. Waiting on my leveling kit and wheels spacer so I can get some 33s for her.

Thanks. I’ll be honest have no need for a dually but couldn’t find a single rear with the options I wanted in that year lol

There is a special place in my heart for a big hipped LMM leveled or slightly lifted on 33’s or 35’s with a nice stance.

Thats how I did mine. Slightly lifted with 34s

that’s the look I’m going for:woott: the leveling kit and spacers should arrive early next week and hopefully get my tires soon after.

Thanks, yeah outta my last 3 trucks this is the only one where the tires clear without issue. Next up is deleting the EGR and DPF, and while I’m in there gunna throw my 3794 in.

Thought I’d give an update. Last week I was able to get my 3794 turbo installed along with the DPF and EGR deleted. Also opted for a Wehril Customs high flow bundle kit, which I’m extremely happy. Once that was all set I broke out the black paint and when to town, not a fan of chrome.
