what is the best torque wrench that you guys use?? i am going to be a diesel mechanic
and im going to wyotech. and i get half off all snap on products. and i am probably going to get a loan out ffor alot of snapon tools and a toolbox. but im curious as to what torque wrench you use. and other suggestions for tools.
even with my 50% off snapon products are still expensive as hell

I have the 3/8" drive Techwrench (TECH2FR100) and 1/2" drive Techangle (ATECH3FR250) torque wrenches. Love them both... the Techangle is awesome for torquing TTY bolts.... With I had it when I put together my 4.6L all those years ago... had to guestimate. Those would be my suggestions, along with a 1/4" drive (TECH1FR240) as well (That'll be my next torque wrench purchase).

I made the mistake of buying Craftsman torque wrenches, and the 1/2" drive one became useless due to the rubber handle breaking free from the wrench so you can't get a reading on the torque value. 90 day warranty on them.... Snap-Ons are Lifetime repair/replace... can't beat that.

I like the Flex-Head torque wrenches. I have the 3/8" TQFR100 and 1/2" TQFR250. I don't like 1/4" anything so my small in/lb is a 3/8" QD2R200. Get yourself a good air ratchet. I use mine like crazy. It's an older FAR72 and it only goes to 60 ft/lbs or so but what a time saver!!

A good 20-100ft/lb in 3/8 and 50-250 in 1/2 should take care of most of your needs.

I have 1/4 mac, 3/8 snapy flex, 3/8 twist mac, snappy 1/2 flex and 3/4 snapon. Look into precision torque wrenches I believe thats the company that makes snapon if not they sure do look the same and are much more affordable. I have a touch over 60k in tools counting my boxes and I never intended to go big. Buying tools is addictive at first just like these damn trucks:D

If you can find old Chicago Pneumatic; go for it. The new ones, less than 8 years old, are crap!

I use a Mac 1/2" impact that's old and beat to hell but works great. I want a little 3/8" impact but I haven't found a good one I want to afford right now.

Do they have shop tools for you to use at WyoTech?

if your going to work for a fleet company like ryder, salem, or penske save your money you will never use a tq wrench.

i work for penske and there is not one person there with a tq wrench  and if you do have one good luck finding specs and not getting laughed at

Any of Snap-on's Tech Wrench series are good. I go 1/4" to 3/4" all Snap-on. Impacts I run Ingersoll Rand, but Snap-on's new impacts are bad ass, Ill pick up a 3/8 & 1/2 in the fall. Sounds like you have a good plan in place for your tools. Buy everything you can afford while you get it at 50% off, even if you have to take out a loan. Better a loan on tools that will put money back in your pocket, than toy's (they will come later). Good Luck!

Amen to that

I got hooked up on a deal while I was still in highschool with the 50% off Snap-on. Best 8 grand investement I ever made. I got a loan for half of it and I bet it earned and saved me 40 times that - and I don't even turn wrenches (for a living) any more. Stock up on the good stuff that lasts forever. Hell I used them on my neighbor's 6.0 today and he said "you have all the coolest tools" I said "Ya, too bad I never have to use them on my truck." Fords - keeps my tools from collecting dust.

Get you a 3/4" drive torque wrench while you have the discount! ( in case you have to work on some old stuff one day that's not TTY.) Load up on those 50% off tools, and a big tool box. If Wyotech has a Caterpillar program, get in that. Then you'll have good job security while you're paying for the other 50%. They need lots of techs to keep their new stuff running. When the discount goes away, buy S-K tools.
