How can you tell if the torque converter is slipping and not the transmission or vice versa?

Tech 2 or a good scanner and someone who knows what they're doing.

Let me describe the problem for you:

When starting out in drive it will walk off as the brake is released per normal, as you accelerate it just eases up to speed and at around 2500 rpm it takes off(like the turbo boost hits) and goes to the next gear at 3000 rpm. The transmission shifts and drops to 1800 or 1900 rpm and the process starts over.

What do you think? Thanks for the help.

Yeah your definitely gonna need a scan tool..... That description is only enough information to start taking some wild ass guesses. Lol.

If you simply want to start guessing and throwing parts at it, start with dropping the pan and inspecting the contents of the pan, and the sump filter.

The truck is all, stock all original. I changed the internal and external filters about 1500 miles ago...

Also there are no codes thrown.

I did however get the transmission hot enough, while pulling a load, that the computer started ding donging and told me the Transmission is Hot. That was about 2500 miles ago.

Thank you for the help.

Torque converter is most noticeable during down shifts when at highway speeds, or in my case anytime the converter locks up. Feels like your running over some rumble strips on the road.
