Well just toasted the gmax kit I had put in less than a thousand miles ago. Felt like I had the ebrake on when I let my foot off the gas. Temp went from 250 to 300 in about 20 sec. I know... very bad, was trying to get it home. Any ideas? Trans is out, converter going to suncoast for refresh. Then opening trans to see what the damage looks like. Really sucks, truck felt bad ass. Truck had .090 jet on a progressor too.

Yes. Sorry should have gave more info. It wasn't that hot when I was racing. Probably 200 though. Trans has had issues with high temps even after the refresh under normal driving. It wouldn't hold the power past the 330 mark. Just flared really bad and came out of gear.

Local trans guy built it. Hes done about 10 of these if I were to guess. Second one for me. The last one lasted about 30,000 miles and probably 20 passes. Time to change I think. If the converter went would it still turn a 1.66 60'?

Your last tranny didnt last very long unless you drive the piss outa the truck 30k miles n 20 passes shouldnt hurt the tranny. I got 30ish 1/8 passes on my truck but only 5k miles. Its holding good and I built it.

I was referring to when the temps went straight to 300 degres. From what I understand that is an indication that the converter has issues. If the heat generation comes from within the trans itself the temp rises progressively not suddenly...

Tuning plays a big role in that. You can still hurt a built tranny pretty easy. Mine made it 36k and probably the same amount of passes, lots of "street" passes though. Bad defuel tuning killed it

Regardless it has to come out. Who's converter was it?

Tranny is out. Sending converter to Suncoast for inspection and refresh. Hopefully this will help determine where things went bad. Then will have the builder tare down. May be taking a family vaca to Fort Walton Beach lol.

Sorry about your issue, easiest way for you to send the converter back is to go on our site and fill out the TC return sheet with all your info.

On the plus side its 70+ and sunny here!
