Got one of those truck campers to carry in the bed a few years ago. Well, needless to say, it weighs about 5,500 lbs and then I have a 4 foot hitch extension that reaches out from under that beast to tow my 5,000 lb boat. I guess the tongue weight is about 200-250ish. However at the end of 4 feet, I guess that is quite a bit more. So, being paranoid that I am, I have about 6,000 lbs in the bed rolling down the road at about 12,500 to 13,000 gvw. I'm thinking it might be good to have extra capacity and cooling back there. This summer I'll be carry that thing for about 5,700 miles across some hot areas.
1) Do you think those expensive covers are worth it or over rated for the gains they provide, if any?
2) Any special additives go in the rear like some type of limited slip lube or what ever? I recall my Ford needed something.
3) What is a good fluid to fill it with? Synthetic something I'd guess.
4) Any other good brands out there that are less expensive but still have:
A) O-ring seal
B) Magnetic dipstick AND drain plug (hate covers w/o drain plugs)
C) Finned aluminum with the fins inside and outside the cover for added cooling.
D) Added capacity like Mag-Hytec's (almost double according to Mag)
