Tires: Dueler 695

So lets talk tires again.

I was going to run BFGs, yes I know they are the end to all.

However I think im going to run dueler 695s.

I have my reason why I want to run these.

what i am asking is what are the opinions on how you think these will perform.

Most of our tracks up here are really good hard clay and bite hard so I think these should do well.

Im going with 315/70R17s unless i should go smaller let me know.

I don't know what your reasoning is for wanting to run these. But I think they will suck for sledpulling. The center "row" of tread might as well be a slick. The two rows that sit to the outside of that look like they will fill with clay/dirt fairly easily and not clean out very well.

I'm no pulling pro like the others but I think if your on hard clay tracks they would work very well. Lots of side to side sipes! Its all about the edge, and they have many. Jeff

sponsorship reasons is why i am considering them. still not sure,. but i might give them a shot, if i just spin out too much i can always throw bfgs on

No personal experience, but a friend of mine pulled with a tire very similar to those (off brand of Bridgestone, same tread design). He said he was impressed by how well they bit and dug, and he used BFG's before. Our tracks are very similar to your description.

the off brand was most likely dayton timberlines. One of my buddies pulled with them on his cummins and they hooked up well.

Heck my bald BFGs hooked up last year, our tracks bite hard.

I guess Ill be running the 695s, i showed up to work yesterday and they were sitting there. Well see how they work, im thinking theyll do good around here but if i encounter a sandy track i dont know how well they will do.

What is the all out best pulling tire out there? Our tracks are a little more sandy then what you talk about but some are really tacky and bite hard. I think I am gonna buy a set of tires and put on my stock rims just for pulling. Can someone please help me or at least lead me in the right direction.

Iceman, check out the Traxxus STS, they seem to be the tire of choice around here.

Dura, those tires were Hercules Terra Trac A/T iirc.

Thanks alot Whitetail! I have seen them tires on pulling rigs before. What conditions do these perform best in? Do you know where I can look at prices for these? My truck is gonna have MPI twins with Rob tuning shortly so power wise I should be around 650hp. What size tire should I run on 16" by 8" stock rims?

They seem good in all types of tracks, but our tracks are mostly clay.

Check out 4wheel parts online or 4wheel parts wholesale, I believe they sell them.

I would go with the biggest size you can fit without the tires contacting the fenders, remember you are going to be pulling with the t-bars dropped.

Btw, I could be wrong with the nbs trucks, but our pyo's on the classic trucks are 16"x6.5". Just thought I should mention that before you go ordering tires, it may help you determine a size.

Probably a 305, maybe a 315, on the tire size. I'm not real familiar with clearance on the nbs trucks.

oh shit there that narrow? There actually off my dad's 04 LB7 are they the same? Do you think like a 33 by 11.50 or 12.50 would work? Also you want the lowest ply rating so they will flex right?
Sorry I have never pulled tucks before I am kinda excited. My Dad has pulled tractors seriously all my life though so I know some of the basics.

33x12.5" seems to be the choice. Those STSs take a lot of power. but if you have loose tracks they should work good.

Your stock rims will be too narrow. I would pick up a set of H2s as they are cheapand make any tire fit perfect on our trucks.

iirc H2's are 8.5 wide and you shouldnt have any trouble on a tacky track my truck is around 450-500hp and doesnt have any trouble spinning 35's on a clay track mine arent STS though

Yes H2s are 17"x8.5", at least that is what GM has stamped on them

I think you will be fine with the STS, especially with that amount of power. If you do find you have trouble turning them, which I don't think will be the case, you can always air them up a bit.

35" doesnt mean much, STSs bite HARD.

With twins you shouldnt have an issue. If you had a big single you may find it hard to keep it lit, but with most of your tracks being loose you should be fine,

Sweet thanks guys. getting kinda excited about this pulling stuff So your thinking I should run STS 33x12.50? Do you guys think 8.5 wide is wide enough? Will these fit under my NBS body style? I have it leveled was just gonna crank the bars all the way down will they fit Also about the ply rating you want them low ply rating so they'll flex right

Oh forgot to mention my fenders are trimmed a bit to fit my 285/55/20's under it now.
