HI new here and to duramax's. I have a 2 part Question.

1 my dad has a 2005 chevy 2500 4x4 Duramax with the Allison. He has owned it since new and now has 150k on it. He uses it to pull HEAVY with it (trailers not sleds) . mods are egr delete, 4'' exhaust, efi live, cold air intake, 285/75/16 tires.

We live in northern Indiana who should we have rebuild the Transmission?

2 I bought a 2009 GMC 2500 4x4 except from the year the trucks are as close to being the same as it comes mods included, and I get better Fuel economy pulling the same trailers at faster speeds than him.

If he gets the 6th gear added when he gets it rebuilt can he expect to get better economy at higher speeds like I get in my truck?

Thanks In advanced, sorry for the long post but ive done lots of reading but have failed to answer the questions at hand.

Don't waste your money on the six speed conversion.

Not all trucks are created equal when it comes to mileage. There are so many factors involved. But generally speaking, unless your towing at a pretty high speed you will get the best mileage towing in 5th, even with a 6 speed. In my experience anyway.

This. That 1500+ (or whatever it is now) buys ALOT of fuel.

We took a trip out west pulling campers and I got 12.6 mpg at 82 mph, he got 8.7 mpg.
lol he used a lot more fuel. I personally don't think its worth it but wanted to get some more opinions.

Other than the 6th speed is there any other difference that would make my 09 get better economy than his 05?

This. ^^^^^
Your LLY does not have the TQ to pull 6th gear; even with a big program. Total mismatch.

Danville, dans diesel performance, wehrli custom fab, Duramax tuner, merchant automotive DHD. Are a few that come to mind

Where in northern Indiana are u from

I'm from north west Indiana and I'm gonna get one from limitless performance in Massachusetts. Prolly have it sent to me and install myself.
