So I just got my tuning by Tony done and It's wicked. So wicked that I've limped my tranny twice already. I've got it reset and it's fine for now so I'm just gonna keep it in a low setting but I know a built tranny is in my future. I'm looking at the dmaxstore stage 6. It comes with a Precision Industries triple disk converter and PPE C1-C5 plates and transgo valve body upgrades. Its right under $2800 which is one of the best prices I've seen. I haven't seen much about this kit so anyone running it or heard about it? Any input is great.

If your building it yourself you will want to buy from a seller that can offer tech support if/when you have a question. Suncoast has better options than the kit your referring to and has the tech support to go along with it.

Often times a do it yourself to save a few bucks ends up in a stack up burnt up clutches. then having to buy a new kit to have someone install. It's all abt proper clearances and setup, in my opinion save up and have it built right.

I plan on having it built by a local reputable shop. But I want to buy the kit myself so he doesn't charge the Crap out of me. I've looked at suncoast and PPE kits and the reviews are pretty much the same on both. The thing I don't like about the suncoast kits is they don't come with the C5 clutches unless you spend a few hundred more And it's 5th that my tranny wants to limp inSo I found this kit and it's a great price with what seems to be quality parts. Dmaxstore is a vendor on here so I'm assuming people have had good dealings with them.

Your builder may have a better option for you then just a "kit" and that is what you pay the extra $ for. If someone brings me a kit they don't get the warranty they would if I used what I would usually use. I highly doubt you will need c5 clutches and they have nothing to do with 5th gear.

Allisons need to be set up properly to work properly, just read some of the horror stories on this site. I strongly recommend hiring a reputable builder to do it and also let him source his own kit. Trans builders are going to make X amount of money on your trans if you supply the kit the labor will probably be more and that's understandable.

Just a heads up but the "best price" isn't always the best option... For most guys you only plan on building your transmission once and going the cheap route by say 300-500$ isn't exactly the correct thought process. By reputable builder whom are you referring to just curious?

C5s are only used in 1st and reverse. Normally the only time you will see C5 start to be burnt is if the C1s are completely toast. I run stock C5s in my 10 sec LBZ and they look like the day they were put in :thumb:

I'm going to take it to Fred sigmons garage in granite falls. He's done numerous diesel and gasser trannies and including his own cummins. I see that I am mistaken about the c5 clutches. I'm going to be taking it up there soon to see. But with my luck if I don't replace everything while I'm in there I'll burn them up. I understand that cheap isn't best. However no one is saying yes or no to this kit. If its cost effective and the builder thinks it's good I may end up getting it. But this is all in the future a bit. I'm not sure what he's going to recommend but I don't want him charging me 3500 for a kit I can get myself for 2500.

And that being said what are good options. I know the big tranny names are PPE suncoast bd and ats. I've heard ats isn't too great. What kind if price should I be looking at for a good built tranny

I went with a local "reputable" builder. It was $3100 out the door. My trans is a joke.

Spend the money in a good transmission or you WILL be redoing it in a matter of time.

Your best bet is to find a reputable Allison builder which is known on this site and taking your truck to them with a goal in mind. Let them do the rest

Call up Dustin @ Diesel Addiction and compare what he would charge for a built trans as compared to where you are going. Even if it cost $500 more, its STILL a better deal to go to Dustin.

I agree call Dustin first and talk to him. If you are dead set on going somewhere else then yes the dmax store kits are good. We have put two of them in trucks and they worked out good

I'll give Dustin a call. I'll see what he says and see what sigmon says and compare. I know who around here to avoid but sigmon had made a good name for himself. His dad started the business years ago and his son runs it now. My06duramax I see you have the PPE stage 5. How do you like it? Any pros or cons? Why did you choose it over suncoast?

I see diesel addiction is in Wilmington... which is the opposite side of the state for me. Who is closer? Or is there anyone? Eastern Tennessee and northwestern sc is closer than Wilmington.

Stop believing the bull shit from vendors that have no idea what works. They are in it for the money.
You better rethink your kit and your builder. Laying an unfamiliar kit on a shop with little experience is a mistake.
Most kits, no matter who's they are will require modifications to get the right clearance. NOTHING fits right all the time because of different grooves in the Allison. When this occurs; your shop will just let it go.
Remember this; you are buying a clutch upgrade and nothing else. If something else is weak or wrong it will be this way when the job is done.
