GM has had issues with the o'rings from pump to block on gassers-is it possible it has bled over to the diesels? It seems to be the same symptoms, no pressure until the o'ring gets some heat then it seal. Honestly can't remember the oil pump installation on blackie.

Well the noise the truck started making was loose flywheel to torque bolts.

Come lose for some reason..

Went to install the guage last night but things wern't going good so before breaking stuff I decided it could sit till i have more time.

So, now i have some info but more questions as well.

First off, anyone run an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, if so where did you install it to?

I found the port on the oil filter adapter housing, facing the ground. I ran it into that.

Started the truck up and the gauge was maxed out @ 100 psi. Now maybe this is pre regulator as i thought the pressure was regulated to 80psi??

Didn't stay there too long then started to come down.

So there is pressure located at the oil filter upon start up.

Questions,

What are others seeing for pressure upon cold start up?

Did you run yours to the oil filter adapter housing? Top or bottom? I have the temp located in the top port.

Thx

The pump has a pressure relief valve, and there is another relief valve in the front cover to the right of the balancer (the left of it if you're looking at it from the front of the truck). 100 PSI on a cold start sounds pretty reasonable to me. I believe the top port is the pre-filter/cooler tap, and the lower one is the post-filter/cooler tap. Sounds like where you put it is what the engine is seeing. Perhaps your problem is as simple as a bad sending unit.

Josh, i'm tending to agree with you. Weird way for it to go bad but these things do happen. Big releif. :thumb:

Originally I was going to just replace it however the sender from GM here in town is over $200 and of course non returnable so didn't want to just toss parts at it. I had the mechanical gauge already in the garage. :)

Also the weird noise turned out to be torque to flexplate bolts lose. Brought the truck back to the shop who had the tranny out and they relock tighted them and torqued.
