Things to do while the bed is off?

I'll have the bed off of the truck in a few weeks to repair some body damage, and I'm wondering what all I should do that's fairly cheap while it's off.

I've honestly thought about taking the tank out and cleaning it, as my fuel filter is absolutely filthy every time I change it every 5k miles. Is this worth doing? Any other fuel tank modifications I should do to it while the beds off? Any other problems or upgrades that should be done with the bed off? And does anyone have any info on cleaning a tank out?

Put a sump in the tank and while you're doing it, wash it out with paint thinner or kerosene and compressed air.

pop the sender out and look at the fingers on the rheostat for your fuel level float. if they are worn out, the curved up ends may have broke off and soon your fuel gauge will be reading incorrectly. its not common from what ive seen but since you have the bed off, may as well check.

probably wouldnt hurt to clean the rust off the frame if there is any and recoat it.

The frames already been painted, but I'm sure there are spots that I missed or need recoating, so I'll take care if that.

Someone mentioned a brake line? Which one is known to need replacing?

I planned on a lift pump anyway, so I guess I should do that while the beds off. Going to run Kennedy diesels single pump for cost sake. Thanks guys!

Great time to cut off the spare tire mount and cross member for weight savings.

Nah I'll leave it, I throw my spare under there when I go on long distance trips just in case. Better than having it in the bed.
