What the hell!

I haven't driven my truck for awhile,quite awhile. :D

Basically it's driven inside my shop more than anywhere moving it out of the way. So I move it from one side of the shop to the other ,park it ,get out and there is a trail of motor oil from where it was to where it's parked! WTF

So I get out the creeper and flash light fire it up and crawl under. Oil is running out of the Oil Pressure Switch! I mean it's raining! I'm sure it's that as the guage is showing about 8 psi.

So if anyone knows the part number (GM) please pass it along and if you need the special tool to remove. If so if you know the size pass that along also. I don't believe a standard deep socket will do the trick so a sender socket might be in order.

Ah tank-a-you very much.

Are you guys nuts! :D

Most of the oil is on the dirty floor. My truck is dirty dusty and un-kept at this moment. Last time I drove it was two months ago home and back. Since then it'll be a year next month . No desire

My camera isn't working ,dunno why haven't looked at it been to busy working.

Been a bad day today, my exhaust feel off my Jeep on the way to work today also. Gotta fix that first.

What about the socket? Do I need to get one? Never seen a sender unit that long , don't want to make a simple job into a hassle.

Not looking to pull the motor to replace. :D

Im curious Mac, just how many miles do you have on that truck now? 40,000?

The stock cluster was swapped out at 23k to a Denali one and that one has 43k on it presently so in total 66k. Most of them are standing still. :D

I still have the stock cluster so there will be no doubt.

I've always been honest with the dealer and told them actual mileage when I've had it in for service but they always write down what is on the OD. So a vin check shows in the 40k range. If I ever sold it I'd be up front and honest.

The under carriage looks like it has about 10k on it as it hasn't been driven in the winter, or rain that much. Very little rust only where and when the rail sensor popped and washed the undercoating off. I've cleaned it up best I could.

I can change 03+ oil pressure sensors in 5 minutes. :p:

Ya it is and looks like a 5 min job and I want to keep it that way that's why I'm asking if acquiring a socket is worth it. This sensors are made out of soft metal. Once you mush it (my luck) it's vise-grip size.

Also that part number isn't showing up at GMpartsdirect or the other site.

Guess I'll have to go to the dealer with my vin.

What year truck? 01-02 is the single wire style that is the same sender that GM used from the early 90's(some were 3 wire for the fuel pump switch). 03+ use a completely different sender for the oil pressure. And yes you will need the socket to change it in the truck. Most any auto parts store will have one for under $10.

Man I'm slow. :D

Believe it or not I just changed the sender yesterday. After moving it around 3/4 more times in my shop I finally got sick of wiping up the oil spill. It was no Gulf spill but nonetheless a mess.

Now for all you geniuses (BEN) perhaps it's me but I recommend getting the proper socket. I did try it with a altered (shortened) 1" 1/16 wrench but it was going to round off the sender. I just bought one of those cheap Great Neck sender sockets from a big box auto parts store.

Also, maybe it's just me, but I found the ONLY way to get to it was peel back the wheel well liner. The socket, a universal, 16" of extensions (yup that much) and the ratchet worked.

Once again perhaps it's me and my finesse of perfection it took a 1/2 hour no 5 mins, BEN! :D

Now to clean up the undercarriage.
